I still have a good feeling about this team and that the Beavers are good enough to make it to Omaha. That said, they have not played up to their standards. They look tight. They have not made things happen and they have not executed like they are capable. Now lets see if the real good guys show up and compete like there is no tomorrow, because there won't be if they don't win. We are not going to shut down Vanderbilts offense. We can hope to limit it enough to find a way to win. We might see a different approach pitching wise. Start your closer,Brown, and hope he can give you 2 or 3 innings. Unless he is lights out you don't want to let them see him multiple times through their lineup. Same goes for any one out of the pen. If the game is close at the end then you want to win or go down with your best arm out there. You can't worry about next week until you get there. It;s no secret we have some guys who are struggling at the plate. It would not surprise me to see Melton and Forrester switch places in the batting order. We have to find ways to score early and often. If that means we need to put guys in motion then do so. We can't set back and wait for an offensive explosion. Constant pressure. That doesn't mean just straight stealing. We have to sac bunt and we have to hit and run and force some of our bats to be more aggressive. Most of all we have to see our energy level rise from the get go and play like we know who we are !

Changing Melton and Forrester accomplishes nothing. Just gives us another out when Forrester comes to bat.
If you change anything, change Gretler and Melton. Gretler has hit the ball well all regional.

Remember when people thought it was stupid to save Cooper for Vanderbilt? Not that we would have saved him all the way til Sunday. But i think we saw why. Their offense (in a down year) is too much for Kmatz and Co.

NM State we had 10 hits, 8 BB & 2 HBP and simply didn't excecute in some big moments. SD we were fine. Yesterday was a solid Vandy kid with a great change that we never figured out, tip of the cap and reset for today... I'm actually been more concerned with our defense down the stretch.

Need Melton’s bat to come alive. Reminds me of the 2018 CWS when Nick Madrigal went totally cold. Worst time ever to have a slump. Thankfully Adley and co. were able to pick up the slack and help carry the Beavers through. 👍🏻

We don’t have elite bats really. We do great against average pitching but as soon as a team shows up with serious aces we really struggle. It’s been evident all year in the lack of run support for Hjerpe. We struggled to score on Furd and UCLA (atleast in the regular season). Vandy has the same talent level as any top tier P12 team and it shows when we can’t get guys home. I don’t think we will be nearly as gutted this off season so things look pretty bright. Melton, Boyd and Meckler are probably gone but another year work for Smith, Forrester, Trosky, Guerra, and Baz should give us a pretty solid base. We have some real promising hitters coming in and Reed and Weber didnt even really play this year. Some wild cards like Brady Kaspar will also be getting a whole lot more time with the outfield clearing out. This year we are mostly transfers and young guys at the plate. Next year should be led by guys who are in the system for 2-3 years and a new group of promising young guys. I think we will have more luck hitting good pitchers.

Concerning our Elite Bat and Pitcher both tailed off at the end of the year. Coopers last 5 starts have not been lights out, sit your butt down efforts. Melton has to have a injury because he can't make solid contact and beats the ball into the ground. I expect today 1 of the 2 starters will surprise and have a great outing. But from which team?
Go Beav's nobody wants this to be the last game of the year.

Love the title of this thread. The truth is, most of us don't know what we don't know. As a fan, I'm approaching today's game with the reality that it could be the last day with this group. They have shown substantial determination to give their best during a bizarre covid related era in College baseball. I support and admire them unconditionally. The only thing I know for sure is that I will leave today's game without a voice. As fans, we need to bring it! I've got extra tickets if any of you want to attend, no charge. Just message me.

I'd really like to have to drive down on Friday afternoon to see us beat Auburn, so let's make it so!

Go Beav's nobody wants this to be the last game of the year. Respectfully disagree... I think the only bad start for Cooper in those last 5 would have been the Zona game. Zero argument there. The other 4: 5/6 Oregon 6 IP 4 H 1 ER, 11K 1BB 5/19 UCLA 6 IP 3 H 1 ER 10K 1 BB 5/26 Cal 5 IP 5 H 1 ER 5K 2 BB 6/3 NM State 6.2 IP 2 H 3 ER 10K 2BB (3 very big HBP).
14 hits/36K's/6BB in 23 2/3. I think we'd take those numbers all day long. Missed a lot of bats and gave up 6 ER in 4 starts.
Team effort and we need everything firing on all cylinders today - pitching/defense/hitting/ baserunning.

Melton is hurt, don't expect anything from him. Funny, is he suddenly "more" hurt than last week when he actually got hurt. The tourney he went 12/24 and ran the bases just fine the last couple games? He's not performing. Pitchers are making pitches to him and his patience is not there. He's 1/13, with 4 K's and 0 BB's (1 BB his last 8 games) even though many pitches are nowhere near the zone. He's hurt... mentally and needs to pick it up. His nonchalant play of turning a routine single in front of him into a double and another run showed his current mental state.

Didn't we have 5-6 hard stung balls yesterday right at them? Really wish the stats distinguished between line outs and flyouts.
