Is it too early for reading material on 2023 Surprise AZ opponent, the U. Minnesota Gophers?
from D-1 baseball coverage of the 2022 Northwoods 'Showcase':
Pitcher GEORGE KLASSEN, RHP, Lakeshore Chinooks (Minnesota) Throwing 102 will wake up a crowd pretty quickly, and that’s what Klassen did when he took the mound for the visiting team in the seventh inning of the second game of the day. In fact, he hit 102 multiple times (recording 104 on the TrackMan unit), never dipping below 98 and essentially sitting at 99-102 mph. His 85-86 mph slider had violent two-plane break and overall he commanded both pitches relatively well. A year removed from Tommy John surgery, Klassen was brought along slowly this past spring at Minnesota. [note: in 2022 his ERA was 14.09 with 14 BB and 8 SO, with a .210 BAA].
Pitcher WILL SEMB, Green Bay Rockers (Minnesota) Had arguably the most dominant 1-inning performance at the @nwlbaseball showcase, K'd the side, 1st with 95 FB next two with 83 mph sliders, sat 93-95, SL was 81-83 with nasty 2-plane break, all arm, high energy delivery, likely long-term short relief. [note: in 2022 his ERA was 9.51 with a .333 BAA].
One inning stints in a Summer League 'Showcase' aren't exactly definitive. But hey - it's Aug. 14 and college baseball news is a bit sparse right now.
