I think most of the West Coast League teams have their rosters posted on their own website. Our players do not join summer leagues until the season is over, whether they are on the post season roster or not. They still need to be available if a change needs to be made for the next round. Except, Paul Myro IV played last night for the Bend Elks, in Springfield, as a pitcher (he pitched in HS). pointstreak.com/baseball/boxscoretext.html?gameid=581835I suppose that since Springfield is a mere 47 miles away from Corvallis, he's still in the 'neighborhood'.

OK. Well that’s new. That’s been the policy in the past. They must have told him he’s not playing no matter what.

I think having a reserve roster makes more sense. There’s 3 dudes on the active roster playing third, Paul is going to develop much better in summer league than sitting at home watching the game. The having a reserve stick in Corvallis incase of injury makes sense but there’s plenty of guys that aren’t seeing time no matter what, why leave them to fester when they could be playing ball.

Except there is no "reserve roster" allowed. Teams set/turn in their forms (posted on another thread) and that's it. Updated rosters are allowed after each phase. Unless they've changed some rules since Covid, even injuries during the CWS aren't allowed a replacement. We were talking to an official in 2018 and he said teams would "hide" players if allowed and then "fake" injuries to, his example, a pitcher who was used or ineffective to allow a fresh arm to be placed on the active list.
Pretty much a moot point for most teams unless there is an injury. The key contributors at the plate and on the mound make up 15 or so players. Many times the extras are pinch runners/hitters, or pitchers that are inning fillers if things go real well (or bad). A 27 man roster is quite large for the most part.
As for Myro... I have no idea what MC's rule is. I would find it strange to have 40-man roster players released to start summer ball?! But, I guess if he is in no way ever going to be part of a postseason roster a conversation was had? I mean he played in about (6) non-conference games, and not as a pitcher. Or, Myro is indeed getting ready to transfer and what's his summer performances to begin to assist him in finding a new school... and maybe as a pitcher?

I think we are making too much of this. Of the 13 guys on the 40-man but not on the regional 27-man roster, most have a less than 1 in 50 chance of being put on a super regional or CWS roster. Even if you are player #28, your chances are probably less than 50%. Even for # 28, 29, and 30, have them start their summer season with the understanding that they may be called back. That's a win-win. I don't believe anyone was planning a trek through the Amazon jungle where they would not be accessible.

Also, can they be called back from a summer league team? I'm not sure that they can, because that usually means they've been released by the school.

Only 2 others they list from OSU - Reece Macrae and Devyn Lopez - neither of which made the roster to start the season that I can tell. D1 Baseball Transfer Tracker - might be subscription
