Easy fix to this tournament: Make it single-elimination. Invite all 11 teams; top two seeds get a bye into the quarterfinals. On Thursday 11 plays 10 and 9 plays 8, with the 11-10 winner facing No. 1 and the 9-8 winner facing No. 2 on Friday, when 3-6 and 4-5 also play. Semifinals on Saturday, championship Sunday. No one would play more than once a day. No one plays more than three games (just like a conference series), unless one of the 8-11 teams makes the championship round. And the higher seed gets the choice of last ups or not, an advantage earned by superior regular-season performance. You go one-and-done, tough turkey. Then even the heat wouldn't be that much of a factor. #7?? They crapped out.

I would say scrap the divisions and just play a straight 8 team double elimination. You win your first 3 in a row and you’re the champs. Awarding one team the championship before everyone else has lost twice kind of eliminates the purpose of a double-elimination tournament, no? Sorry, I meant you win the 1st three and wait for the losers bracket team to come back through the bracket.

Single could be done with all (11), 2 games/day except Day2. Championship could be one or 2 of 3 over two days. A 4 or 5 day affair. Similar to... Pigtail games 1st day: G1: 8 vs 11 G2: 9 vs 10 Day 2: G3: G2 w vs 1 G4: G1 w vs 2 G5: 4 vs 5 G6: 6 vs 7 Day 3: G7: G3 w vs G6 w G8: G4 w vs G5 w Day 4: G9: G7 w vs G8 w (done or...) Day 5: G10: G7 w vs G8 w G11: if necessary *Home teams determined by regular season series between the teams #3?

That’s why you need to go with 8 or 10.

And stop labelling the tournament groupings as "number 1" and "number 2." Vaguely Implies one is better than the other.
How about just group "A" and group "B"? Too sensible and simple for the mouth-breathers running the PAC12 I guess.

Awarding one team the championship before everyone else has lost twice kind of eliminates the purpose of a double-elimination tournament, no? If there is a one-game Championship Game, it is much more marketable. The Pac-12 makes money on a Championship Game. The rest of the Tournament, the Pac-12 probably only profits on advertising and gate. And I am not sure that the profits put the whole thing in the black. It would be great, if the Pac-12 could segregate the semifinals like the ACC and SEC do. Then, those would be more marketable, as well. The whole point is having a Championship Game (singular). So, no. The answer to your question is no. The purpose of the double-elimination tournament that proceeds a Championship Game is to get the right two teams in the Championship Game.
