We just watched Oregon State's first three-game losing streak since losing one to Arizona and two to Stanford in a row last year. It is the most lopsided (-11 runs) three-game losing streak since losing to USC and Arizona State twice in a row last year.
Oregon State also had a four-game losing streak last year, losing to Gonzaga and then being swept by Oregon. However, the games were tighter. The last time Oregon State had a four-game losing streak that was -12 runs was the five-game losing streak to end the 2020 season: two to San Diego State and three to UC Santa Barbara.
Oregon State really needs a win tomorrow.

We just witnessed OSU’s 1st back-to-back losses of the 2022 season too at AZ.(I know, no consolation)
Here’s to this being the only 3 (AND 2) game streak we see all year!

We knew the tail end of the schedule was tough. Suddenly, we are not looking like the dominant, best team in the conference. Our lineup has cooled off, and our pen is scuffling a bit. Even Hjerpe looks human.
It's not panic time, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a bit concerned. You want to head into post season playing your best ball. We have not been the last three games. Need to get back on track tonight!

Looking at the other D-1 Baseball projected National Seeds, 7 of those 8 teams played last night (no Auburn). OSU was the only 1 thru 8 seed to lose last night.
As far as teams nipping at the heels of getting a National Seed (and possibly 'stealing' OSU's), say projected 9 thru 12.....those 4 teams went 1-3 last night.
Win Sat. and Sun. and it's moot.

I believe pre-season Furd, UCLA, ARZ, and then us.....in that order? Reality is, all four teams are pretty even, and I think that's what we are seeing. Good thing is we made hay against the lesser teams, so we have cushion. On the other hand, we look ripe for the picking in a regional by a team coming in hot.....our guys better wake up, win the next two, and make a run thru the conf tourney......we need to be the hot team hosting a regional and super.

A bad stretch at a bad time. UCLA took the game in the first and sixth innings. Not many hits but aggressive play. Need to match that Tonight. Biggest game of the season. We have played two desperate teams. Maybe we got carried away with a three game cushion. Now USC beat Stanford once. Let’s win tonight and take it to them. I give them credit they earned it.

Need to empty the bench of pinch hitters. Beavers 7-8-9 have struggled all year. Start who ever you want in those spots and give them 1 AB, run your pinch hitters out for an AB and let the other guys finish. Never going to string a rally together at the bottom third, might as well play for a one swing rally

Pretty risky playing Smith if Wilson isn't healthy enough to play. Guerra is kinda a strike out machine and has booted some balls at 3rd, I'm still pro having him get the AB and develop. Wheeler is nails if hes healthy, not sure when or if he will be back. Wheeler back to early season form would transform the whole offense overnight. Edit: Kasper? he has the tools but has struggled in limited action.

To my eyes, the Beavs are playing flat and sloppy, scaredy-cat, defensive baseball. Way too many called strike threes, many fewer steal attempts, careless defense, etc. And it appears to me that a number of our better hitters are overswinging, perhaps to try to make up for the general lack of offense.
Time for Canham and Dorman to earn their salaries and shake things up a bit....

It's time to be more aggressive and quit playing on our heels. Be more aggressive (not stupid aggressive). PH more in the 7-9 batters or sac squeeze. Anything to switch the mojo to us. There is very little pressure on our opponent. This team is not super talented, but momentum is everything.

At this point of the season, it doesn't matter who is listed in the bottom of the order. The writing is already on the wall. There will not be a sudden one week multi-hit improvement by anyone down there, no matter who you insert. The Beavers are stuck with a top heavy lineup for the rest of the way.

Yeah hes not bad but not a huge differnece maker over Dernedde. That said I still prefer developing the frosh Trosky.

I think Trosky is the best option in terms of inserting someone to shake things up a bit. He battles. He's a switch-hitter. In my recall he doesn't look at a lot of called third strikes. In his last 5 starts (17 AB's) he's only struck out twice, with 4 BB - Though he only has 4 hits in his last 28 AB's. Still learning how to handle D-1 pitching. Maybe at SS or even DH (in place of Fuchs, who has struckout 7 times in his last 16 ABs, and is a minus on the bases). UCLA is going with a LHP (Flanagan) today so I suspect Fuchs will be on the bench. Flanagan's stats pencil out slightly better than Rajcic's. Damn! Another quality starting pitching opponent.
