I’ll add to this after his two scoreless innings that he pitched last night against UO......gotta give MC and Dorman credit for bringing this young man back and letting him continue to get his groove back

I'm very happy to admit I was wrong about Verburg. I thought he was toast, and had lost the confidence of the coaching staff. Kudos to them, and him. He is working his way back to being a very relevant part of the bullpen.

I believe I read somewhere that MLB pitchers are not using fastballs near as much as previous years and using more curve, cutter, and sweeper pitches with a lot of movement. That may be why scouts like Verberg more than we did early in the season seeing how much movement he was getting on his pitches.

No, not Mitch.
Here's what makes Mitch really good: 1) He has always kept the ball down, when he gets up, he can be hit. 2) It looked to me like he had a noticable drop in velo in the early games - now he's back sitting on 90-92, low in the zone and painting the black. 3) Mitch's fastball has some late life which complicates the hitter's task. 4) Mitch has a full extension - a long arm arc that has to be consistent (grooved) but that arc builds up arm speed and enables him to stay in the 90's without over-throwing. 5) Mitch "tunnels" - FB and SL look the same at release point from the same slot. 6) His slider has some late bite and a vertical dimension too it. 7) He can elevate the letter high FB on a 2 strike count and get a whiff. 8) When his rhythm is smooth and he's in sync, a very difficult pitcher to square up on. FB/Slider out of the pen is ideal. A perfect 3 inning set-up man for the Beaver staff. 9) No need for a CB or CH - the slider is about a 10 mph drop off from the heater.

One thing I've noticed with "bad" Mitch is his FB doesn't seem to have movement. It's as straight as the day is long. It was almost like serving up batting practice. Good to see he's back "in sync"

Thanks Chin, that was awesome! He did pull out a GREAT changeup yesterday though that trailed back in towards the right handed hitter, between the movement and change of pace, it was gorgeous. Obviously he's not confident yet to throw it a ton, but 1 of 25 pitches makes it even more dangerous if batter knows its there
