Gentlemen (and others),
How long a time period do the players in the portal have to make their decision on which school to attend and play basketball for this coming year?
Thank you!

There is no limit officially I believe. The only requirement would be for the school they want to go to has a scholarship available, and they are able to enroll in the school for fall term to be eligible to play at the beginning of the season. The only limit I know of is the limit to enter the portal is May 1.

wbosh15,
Thank you for the response. If that is indeed the situation, then that really can become a real guessing game and roll of the dice for both those players and the Coaches of the schools that are interested in them. Does a Coach continue to wait and wait hoping that a really good player who is still available will choose his program and then when they don't he or she is left holding the bag. Conversely the player might keep waiting and waiting for a school that never offers them a scholarship. So almost like having to recruit all year long both with normal recruiting and the portal. Must be a nightmare at times!

I would imagine that it's much like recruiting, with players and programs making each other aware of their interest. There must be some rules about visits and such, but I have no idea what they are. I imagine there must be some very frank discussions, as both player and coach communicate what their expectations are in this coming together.
On a separate note, between last year and this, there have been about 2,000 players do this. I really wonder how many, several years down the road with maturity and time to reflect, will concede that they probably should have stuck it out at their original school.

Signing day is tomorrow 4/13. So we could get news tomorrow. I believe last year SR waited to announce at the end of season banquet for the portal pickups.

I believe on their portal application, players can name if they are interested in hearing from all schools, or only designate specific schools.

Signing day is tomorrow 4/13. So we could get news tomorrow. I believe last year SR waited to announce at the end of season banquet for the portal pickups. Tomorrow is the late signing date for HS senior players. It really has nothing to do with players in the portal. The Beavs did announce AJ and Tea on 4/14 last year, and announced the addition of Emily Codding on 5/3. It will be interesting to see if the Beavs do add any HS signees tomorrow, or this month. I would need to double check, but I think the late signing period actually last a month. I know there are 3-4 that they have at least taken a look at. Just as a note on dates/transfers, the ducks announced Pino was transferring in on 5/25, Dufficy on 6/18, and Endyia Rogers was announced on 6/28. Just examples that this could go on for a while.

One thing to keep in mind, is going into the portal allows other teams to recruit you and talk to you. Players may look and deem to stay, although not likely. I wonder how many players that enter the portal end up going back to their team.

There are now 44 PAC 12 players from 11 schools in the portal, an average of 4 per school - exactly what OSU is losing. This represents approximately 35% of the players who have remaining eligibility. It's not less than 35%, and is probably more.
The big winners at the moment, from the loss of players perspective, are UCLA with zero and Washington State with but one. I would think this sets up Washington State nicely to finish in the top 5 or 6 next year and get another tournament bid. Stanford isn't exactly crippled by this either.
The biggest loser? Far and away, that is women's college basketball, which will take a big hit in fan interest at many universities. The NCAA (yet again) shoots itself in the foot by creating the portal, the young ladies bite the hand that feeds them by riding off into the sunset, and the fans that supported them so rabidly wonder if they can find a Friday night/Sunday afternoon bowling league to fill up the hours they used to spend watching women's hoops.

I haven’t seen much inbound action from Pac-12 schools. Taya Hansen goes from asu to oregon but otherwise I haven’t seen much else. Seems like Barnes had a bunch coming in by this time last year.

The fans lose the same as wbb or at least close to that. By the time the ncaa is done they will have driven the game into the ground.
