Great weekend. SC has a formidable lineup. I thought the announcers were very gracious towards the Beavs, knowledgeable about our players and very impartial on calls.
The camera man on the other hand....gee whizz. For a few innings he framed home plate just enough to the left to include the blonde in tank top blowing bubbles and then completely cut her out in final innings.

Huge AB right here... need to get Halsema out EFF... allows the bottom of the order to move a runner into tying position!! But, Lazano has pop... prob let him try to tie or take the lead as he has no Sac bunts on the season. DP needed Wow... another Sunday with a highly questionable pitching change?! Just do not get what they see in some guys in certain situations. It's not just "stuff", they have to perform in certain game situations. Plus another guy has to be "hot" at the same time Lawson was entered. After two lead off hits, he should have been done. Lucky for some SC errors, WP or we'd find ourselves down late. No worries, all's well.

Sebby. Beavers have a pitcher in there. All is well. LOL. Welcome aboard! We’ve been waiting for you (and all the rest).

With an overall win percentage of 74.4%. Awesome! Great rebound from the Stanford series, especially yesterday’s tight win, and coming through when we had to today. Though I’d still like to see the bats get more hits.

Way to go Beavers. Really a great pitching weekend. 27 IP 0 BB
Our walk-to-strikeout ratio was already one of the best in the nation. After this weekend…? Can’t wait to see the stats.

The one thing I would like to see against Long Beach State, especially if Pfennigs still can’t go, is for Carpenter to get a few innings. He could be a key guy down the stretch as a middle reliever if the Beavers have to continue the committee approach.
Of course this is dependent on the weather as the forecast for getting any games is not great.

Finally smoked one through the infield This pitching change sort of looks like one of our Sunday choices... by the stats anyway! Righty vs a bunch of leftys... 4.50 ERA... 2.10 WHIP... 10 BB... 8 K... I call it " GAME OVER"... AND NO JINX... calling my shot with this pitching change! LOL You called it.....congrats. This was a great sweep to get

Of course this is dependent on the weather as the forecast for getting any games is not great. I'd also like to see CH be limited to 70-80 pitches, get his W, or at least leave with the lead. Give him a solid workout, but fresh for the stretch run vs three of the better squads.

Giving up no walks for a series is kinda crazy. But it has me wondering... (along with the aforementioned claim that we have one of the leading walk/SO ratios in the country)...
Could this be part of our problem? Some of our pitchers have gotten absolutely shellacked this year. Last year we got absolutely killed by free passes and HBP; has there maybe been too much of an emphasis on putting the ball over the plate? Could there be some kind of overcompensation at work in our coaching or mindset, such that the guys who normally could be effective with careful placement (at the cost of more balls/walks as they try to paint the edges) are instead putting their offerings in more 'sure thing' territory, even though they might not have the movement to invoke missed swings from Pac-12 hitters?
Just spitballing here, but the way that some of our pitchers have been teed off on this year as if it were batting practice has been pretty remarkable....

The only two games I recall where there were an eye raising number of hits came on weekdays, GCU and Nevada. Two good offensive teams by the way. I don't see a pattern or trend over the schedule to draw any inferences. Losing a couple weekend starters has pushed development timeline up considerably for some pitchers. I think that and pithcer returning from rehab and not back to form yet are the most likely reason for allowing some big offensive innings,.

Looking at 6 pitchers last year vs. this year (Lattery, Lawson, Townsend, Hjerpe, Sebby, Hunter): 4 of those pitchers have significantly better WHIP compared to last season. Two of them (Lawson & Townsend) have significantly worse WHIP this season compared to last. Make of it what you will. Last season (as a staff): 64 wild pitches and 83 HBP in 61 games. This year 14 wild pitches and 22 HBP in 31 games. Overall staff WHIP in 2021 (full season) was 1.22. WHIP is 1.24 this season.

I’m happy that 4 of them are heading in the right direction. I love the improvement in the Wild Pitches and HBP categories. I bet walks are down significantly too. It puts the burden of getting on base squarely on the shoulders of the batter. Where it should be.
