To be fair we got a bit out coached in that game. Esquer was out for blood and it worked. We made a terrible decision to send Fuchs. Then he brought in his Sat. starter to shut us down and he did. That Lefty will be a big problem if he throws Sat. or Sun. Nothing new but we better get back to getting the ball in play with runners on. I agree with you as Fuchs didn’t get a good jump after a hard hit ball to right. Runners on the corner with one out gives the Beavs many options that lead to winning the game.

Sending Fuchs was the right play. It made them make a play with a wet ball. They made the play. NO WAY you can stop him on that play!!

I agree that generally you want to force the defense to make the play. And in a normal situation the play should be at the plate but the throw was up the line so the run scores. The fielder didn’t have to make a perfect throw because Fuchs was behind. Which means mere a good throw gets him out. That’s trouble.

On a positive note for Cooper, the Toronto scouts sitting in front of me were impressed. It is quite interesting to me that the guy charting the plays would write copious notes on a foul pop to the first baseman. It was just a foul to the first baseman or other player to me, lol, but the one scout was obviously more attuned to the intricacies of the pitch than me.

I would say send him if Fuchs had gotten a good read off 2nd, once he froze and even took a false step back towards 2nd you have to stop him. Don’t think Fuchs was aware of the defense on the right side of the infield, no way that ball was going to be caught off the bat. It tight games every detail matters

Coaching my son and we had practice last night so I recorded and got done late...
My .02
Prolly the most dominant pitching performance I've ever witnessed, by Hjerpe. He was so dialed, might as well have been 0-2 on the furd hitters when they stepped in the box.
Also one of the most disappointing losses I can remember.....hats off to Furd though. They hung in and broke through. Their pitching was outstanding as well. They bent, but never broke. A very well played, entertaining baseball game.
Today concerns me. Kmatz doesn't have the swing and miss stuff of Hjerpe. Furd is fired up. We need to get our bats goin.....see you at Goss!

Didn’t get to a TV until after the play at the plate and just now saw a replay. But, given that one run likely (and ultimately did) win that game, I understand the desire of the coaching staff to force the action and try to get a run. A lot like the Super Regional game vs. Michigan really.
That being said, Fuchs did put on the brakes when he didn’t need to. Don’t know if the base coach read it through immediately and started watching the outfielder to gauge when to send him only to look back at Fuchs and see he’s 10 feet behind where he figured he would be or what, but when the runner is thrown out by that much, fingers are always going to be pointed at the 3rd base coach.
It was a really strong throw though. Tip of the cap to that kid.

As long as we can plan the win now for last night, why was Fuchs left in the game to run? Seems at that moment in time McDowell would have been a good choice then moved to left field for the remainder of the game. Stanford did sub a runner maybe the winning run. Just saying.......

I thought Furd also made a key mistake not playing for a 2nd run. After the 2nd double, bunting the runner to 3b made sense. The next 4-3 out would have been 2nd run. With infield in (typical positioning) the ball goes thru for a base hit. I thought OSU dodged a huge bullet there.
