I may be getting a little dramatic but let's cut to the chase. The Beavs could still lose more players to the portal, but if they keep the current group, they have 10 players on the fall roster. They are looking strong at the 4 and 5 positions, but woefully thin with wings and backcourt players.
With a roster of 10, the Beavs have 5 scholarships available if they wanted to use them all. Can SR find what he needs to move this team back to a top 15-20 team, or are they destined to remain in the middle, or lower half of the Pac12?
Last summer when Sasha and Savannah transferred out, the Beavs were able to pickup AJ, Tea, and Emily. Both Tea and Emily were mid-majors which showed some possibilities, but neither were able to provide what this team really needed, and neither Greta or AJ were ready. While adding players from the portal helped, the quality of those players wasn't quite strong enough to keep the team in the top half of the Pac12.
This summer provides another chance for SR to use the portal. There are a lot of players available, and a lot of competition to land those players. Can SR get it done?
SR has proved himself very good at developing relationships with High School players and building on those relationships. Kennedy, Sasha, and Timea would all be good examples of long time relationships Scott was able to build. In the transfer portal, he doesn't have that time frame. Can he get it done this summer? Can he find 1, 2, or 3 difference makers in the portal this summer? What the Beavs do this summer will make a difference between this team being a contender for the top 2-3 spots in the Pac12, or being a middle of the Pac team waiting for youth to develop, while risking the possibility that waiting for that development could also lead to those players transferring out. Do you think SR will get it done? Do you believe he can land a couple difference makers? Or, will we see another summer where we end up with a couple mid-major players that we hope develop into what this team needs? For me, to see this team remain (or return) to one of the top programs in the country, SR has to go all out. Give it everything you've got to land difference makers this summer. When I see Adia Barnes already having home visits with players in the portal, I can only hope the Beavs are putting out that same effort....and more. You can't just rest with what you have, or bringing in the average player(s). You must go for broke, or risk not getting back to the top anytime soon. Ok, again, overly dramatic, but am I that wrong?

Werebeaver - your meagre response is laced with disrespect. And your dimwitted attempt to pretend otherwise is typical of your style.
The questions posed had to do with whether Coach can get the players we need to become a better team. No one was pretending to be an "expert" and no one said Coach gives a flying "F" about what's written on this board.
You don't get to be a jerk and get off the hook with a half-assed "No disrespect intended."
Complete disrespect intended! GO BEAVS!!!

Rueck has gotten two successful transfers.
Destiny came knocking at his door so he doesn't get much credit for that.
I'm not sure about Mack but I believe he did find out about her and convinced her to come through a mutual acquaintance/friend.
This past portal recruiting season he got two from adjoining states. We can hope with two more assistants he can go more afield for a transfer.

If Greta struggled to get up to speed because SR and staff could not get her there, then that might be a sign of struggles to come with other top recruits. Personally, I think Greta might not ever reach the level projected for her coming out of high school. Hard for me to believe there will be wholesale issues among the incoming McDonald's AAs, etc. As far as the portal, there's no reason to believe SR will fail to utilize it to the best of his ability. I guess the big question is whether or not top recruits will leave via the portal if they don't feel comfortable playing the Rueck Way. You have Destiny transferring and Sasha and now Greta entering the portal..if those decisions were truly due to Rueck, then there most likely will be more defections down the road (not necessarily this offseason).

The UCLA game was a debucle, Signs of things to come. Osborne dismantled us. A defensive breakdown. Whatever happened to box and one. Why couldn’t we isolate her and control what she did? Is a personell issue, There will be two more just like her next year. The speed of this game is passing us by. Love this program but we are too slow to match up without quicker personnel. Or is Rueck not taking the fun out of the game with his guards by micro managing the guard play. Seems like it’s biting him in the butt. Gotta let them play. Need faster players. Particularly in the back court. D-1 basketball has turned into a elite world of players. Look what happened with Louisville when hailey van lith went there instead of coming here. We are starting to see just certain teams gaining ground versus other teams. Stanford has recruited what appears to be a balance in this elite world. It’s getting tough to get that right balance of elite players. Rueck is a competitor. He is trying, hope he can take that next step! it was great beating Stanford, felt good. Go beavs

I will give you a fair answer. From what you said here I have seen the all same concerns from about 10 to 11 other pac-12 fan sites on this time of year. And everyone is going all out it is a very competitive environment. Actually I think more players portaling out OSU out might be better for OSU next year. If we just have one I would be a little disappointed. There is a chance to upgrade faster from the portal.
Some snicker at Ore. but they will likely upgrade over the ones they lost. I would like a choice of 2 or 3 to upgrade from the portal.

Here are my two cents on SR and the play of the team this last year.
1. Every coach wants his/her offense run but there seems to be too much control from the sideline. Occasionally a team or player with talent needs to show that talent.
2. The team is too slow or just not aggressive enough or both on defense. We don't pressure anybody at any part of the court. Other teams are pressuring us as they are within a foot of our ball handler we are often three feet away chasing the ball handler not pressuring. Open threes, getting hung up on screens.
3. Something needs to change. Whether its quicker players or a different approach to defense. Not sure. That's why SR gets the big bucks. But to me its pretty evident that the real problem is defense.

I get what you are saying, but I don't see anyone else that needs to portal out this year. The team is down to 10, all who have something to contribute, and all (except maybe Noelle), have enough skills that they may play major roles the next few years. In my mind though, portaling (using your word) in this year is a necessity if SR wants to get back to a top 20 team this fall. If the Beavs bring in players with similar abilities as Adams and Codding (whom I very much appreciate their help to the team this year), the chances of the Beavs being top 20 are remote. That would mean you are relying on player development, and your freshman (particularly Adlee and Lily to be better than expected). The fact that the freshman this year didn't contribute enough, hurt the Beavs top 20 opportunities this past season. If the Beavs don't return to the top 20 this year, it only makes it more difficult to return in future years. Again, this is the way I see it, but apparently SR doesn't give a flying 'f' what I think. I can't believe he doesn't value my opinion! Oh well, I'm going to go on a world wide search to find someone, anyone, who does care enough to give a flying 'f". Wish me luck!

Perhaps from coach Rueck’s point of view, unsolicited advice is worth what you pay for it.

My opinion of Noelle as a Pac-12 caliber player has raised significantly this season. Is she a starter or a potential All-Pac-12 HM candidate? Probably not. But can she come in and play reliably and shoot with confidence and accuracy? Yes. I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you about her ability to fill a "major role" on the team since that's a pretty broad term. But she's a capable off-the-bench player and contributor at this level. And I might not have said that at the start of the season.
