A nice ride to end the season. Tough first quarter that we couldn’t overcome. And man are we going to miss Ellie!! There’s a lot of promise on this team and add what we have coming in next season and we’ll be a tough team again. Bright days are ahead. Nice ride indeed! Ellie in 2 seasons earned her place amongst the very good Beav WBB players of recent years. Taya - what can you say? Brought a solid presence for so darn many minutes, for so many games, for so many years. One of my personal favs of all time. The 2021-22 Beav WBB provided many entertaining weekends. Next year will be new and different. Strongest recruiting class ever.

Today kinda sucked, but overall the WNIT turned out to be a great way to cap off what was otherwise a pretty weird start and stop season. I mean, four post-season home games? That's tough to beat.
Many, many thanks to our seniors.
The Beavs may need next season to get their wheels under them, after losing key leadership to graduation and with all the new, young faces. But I honestly think they'll be back near the top of the conference within two years.
GO BEAVS!

Taya's hugging and crying. Yeah, I don't think she's back next season.

Sittin' shiva here. Not really ready to say goodbye to the season, but we got outhustled by a team that just came off of a triple overtime win at altitude. And now, the transfer portal and cheering on Stanford at 6pm tonight.

Based on what I see. With Jelena, Kennedy, a healthy Taylor and then add in Timea and Reagan no one will have an easy time in the paint against us with any lineup combo. Yes we need better d on the perimeter which I think AJ can provide with more experience and minutes. She can be a great lockdown defender like Gabby was. Our defense overall will be much improved next year. One player should never make a huge difference but losing Taylor was a game changer on both ends of the court. Maybe it’s my orange colored glasses but I don’t think so, I truely believe the next two years will be a major jump forward again.

The twin towers lineup, for the most minutes all year...why not multiple times earlier in the season? And AJ flashing faster than any of her teammates...then gone for the last 15 minutes? Why not earlier and more often multiple times in the season?
Finishing with four home games consecutively = golden. No teams get four home games at season's end: thank you WNIT. Back to the Dance, with health, momentum, and vast potential, in 2023. Go Beavs.

As of now that combo plus returners is super limited in anything but various zones. Bigs that have a midrange to 3 pt game will be an issue. As will the prototype PG. The returners and new recruits don't really improve the overall athleticism of this team. Even a single PG transfer will need a backup. Right now there are a bunch of 2,3,4 types that aren't overly adept at m2m defense. With what is returning throughout the league and other recruiting efforts OSU should take a couple steps forward. But, I don't see them being a top 3 type team at this point in time.

Taya was asked about her future in the post game interview and Taya just said she wasn't ready to comment. At least Taya didn't shut the door.

It was perimeter defense that could hurt us next year.

I tend to agree on the defense, but next years roster allows for perimeter defenders to cheat out a lot more, as we have a lot more fouls to give on the interior. We will generally be extremely long again next year. But lots of questions to answer for sure - I’m most curious to see if our incoming frosh can pressure for PT by offering a consistent deep threat.

fucla’s “o” was in progress within three seconds of a rebound or inbound, BECAUSE of their PG play. EVERY POSSESSION.

Put AJ back in. She was one of the catalysts for the big comeback. It doesn't always show up in the box score but there almost always a temperature change to the game when AJ steps in.

Maybe it’s my orange colored glasses but I don’t think so, I truely believe the next two years will be a major jump forward again. We didn’t get beat tonite from any inside game. It was perimeter defense that could hurt us next year. actually when we were down 15 Rueck put in Jelena and Kennedy at the same time, And he had AJ in as well. We made a big run and got within 4 because they had no answer on the inside. And we also limited offensive rebounds so ucla had no second chance points for that period. It also allowed the perimeter players to play up a little more on their players because there was better presence in the key. Defensive is not just perimeter players OR post players. It’s a combo of both. Having support in the key gives the outside players more confidence to play tighter. And AJ is a long player who held Osbourne to only a couple of baskets for a long stretch. With depth in the front court next year we can play more bigs at one time. Kennedy is not meant to be a 5 which she had to play A LOT this year. UCLA beat us a lot with a mid range jumper from the top of the key when it was just Jelena or Kennedy. But as soon as it was both of them, they struggled to get that same shot off. Now imagine there will be 5 legitimate bigs to sub in and out. And Timea apparently is more of a Taya type player who can move out a little and guard that mid range shot. Plus Adlee is an athletic 6’ guard and Lily is a tall 6’2” guard and shooter. We will have so many more options and some depth we haven’t had in awhile. Like I said and very much believe, with some much needed depth and experience, the next couple of years should see a lot of improvement both defensively and offensively.

The stat sheet shows who got UCLA THE LEAD in the beginning, Osbornes play, it also shows when we made our runs who kept them in their lead. The guard who scored 31 points, that is dominated us and Osborne, she lead ucla in three throws and rebounds with ten. It’s obvious it was there guard who really controled and it was her will that got them that win. We have a deficiency in our perimeter defense according to the above statistics. I’m not saying basketball isn’t a team sport but my dad would circle on their stat sheet shows who was able to dominate enough to steal this game from us. One man’s opinion?
