Not really rated, but at least it's a HS player that has an opportunity to develop.

Yeah, from a quick look at some tape on him, certainly looks like a guy who needs to develop — especially his body — in order to contribute. Needs to work on his ball handling, but good height for his position and seems to have nice shooting stroke.
Here’s a quote from his high school coach about Nick. I realize that it’s his coach and he’s gonna say nice things, but like that his comments are about intangibles than stats/skills.
“Nick is a great basketball player and one of the hardest working players I have ever coached,” Head coach Keith Robinson said. “The best thing about Nick is that he is a great team player. He goes above and beyond the call of duty to help the team and his teammates.”

I was hoping they’d bring in another HS recruit, though I was hoping it would be a PG. i do like that these 4 frosh will hopefully be able to bond as a group and grow. Given the difficulty this year of the team gelling, that could be important moving forward.

can someone provide a little more context re: who all we have coming in (or at least verballed) so far - I did see the names, reason to be excited? Do we expect any to contribute soon? I've lost track or stopped paying attention because 3-28 will do that I guess.

Michael Rataj...6-8 Germany...signed...talented player Tyler Bilodeau ...6-8 Kennewick Washington ...signed...Dad ex pro hockey player.mom ex pro hoops player Jaydon Stevens ...6-7 Spokane Washington...commit Nick Krass...6-4 Biloxi Mississippi...commit...
Four newcomers, and not sure who will return from the current roster. It's about having the right players return who are going to blend together. I like the talent of Taylor,Davis,Andela, and the Alitisha we saw in 2020-2021. The rest don't excite me...

What I liked from the highlights of Krass is his ball handling, moxie, and three point shooting. In addition,he gives great effort diving for loose balls. Seems like he has an i need to prove myself attitude...coachable from what I can tell. Not a finished product, and reasonably athletic. Not uber athletic...solid get imo. I like the fact that we are getting more high schoolers. Guys who can develop. It's about chemistry and playing together. Not just throwing together talented kids and expecting them to gel...

I like having a kid with a hockey background in case of any brawls or maybe a well-timed hip check. Might come in handy! Totally forgot about Rataj.

I've lost track or stopped paying attention because 3-28 will do that I guess. Rataj and Bilodeau probably have the best chance of contributing next year — at least IMHO. The other two probably need some time. But depending on who comes back, they might have to play some. I’d say the newest recruit could help if he has to mainly based on his shooting. Overall, I’d say this class is maybe a tick or two under solid on paper. But from what I’ve been able to read about them, they seem like they will be coachable and team players.

Watched some Krass highlights.....seems like he feasted on some pretty poor competition in high school. Does look like he works hard and has a good stroke. Might have a Reichle type adjustment period of a few years where it takes him a while to get his footing.

Doesn’t Zack technically have a year left if he decided to go to grad school?

Really two of the four would be questionable walk ons at schools that plan on finishing top half of the Pac12. Tyler Bilodeau was the 4A POY in WA... not Pac12 starter type/ready, but unfortunately will have to play a ton early. Could be the best player on the roster, in terms of providing size, inside presence, and consistent effort.
I know very little about German pro leagues in terms of how they compare to Pac12/D1 competition. But Rataj (listed at 6'6" there) was moved down from to Ger-1 to Ger-3 (Pro B-South) after struggling to get time. Was a 12.5/4.5/1.9 guy shooting 43% overall/30% from 3. But, struggling at 5.0/1.6/1.0 his last 5 games. He has very inconsistent shooting nights. Again I have zero idea how that translates, but I'd guess it's better competition that WA 4A hoops, but not close to Pac12 play. And, Rataj does have the option to stay overseas if he sees it as a better path.
Again... one very solid... one ?, two that are walk on types. At least WT got some HS players. But, the returning roster (who knows who that will end up being?) and these recruits do not elevate OSU MBB to even mid tier in the Pac12. Again what will be an acceptable level of play for the '22-23 season?
