Just a final thought before we close the book on Friday's game. That was one of the most enjoyable conference wins I've ever had the pleasure of watching. A 21-0, 2 hit shutout. You don't see that kind of complete domination very often. Hopefully it translates into some momentum for the Beavs. If ASU are any kind of competitors, they'll be fiercely motivated to flip the script Sat and Sun. BTW, Beavs back up to #2 in Massey masseyratings.com/cbase/ncaa-d1/ratingsOn the flip side... that ASU team last night was the worst team OSU has faced this season and the worst Pac11 team I've ever seen in person. Did it end up with 19 free passes (15 bb/4hbp) AND 17 hits?! Today's starter is better statistically, but when Murphy told Bloomquist the ASU job was a HUGE job he was not kidding. They need a ton of transfer and HS talent to show up the next 2 years to be competitive in a 3 game series. Unless the Beavs come out completely unfocused or the OSU pitching staff gives ASU freebies, I see no way ASU wins a game in this series. In fact none of them may be even close! Don't get carried away. None of the runs we scored last night count toward today's game and ASU does have some players. And their pitcher today is supposedly their best. I don't expect a 21-0 shutout today.

I don't expect a 21-0 shutout today. Cooper is not pitching today, but I saw their plate approach and swings. I saw their defense, and lack of arm strength in several key positions. They are 1-9 vs Q1 teams and I believe assured being bottom tier Pac11 team. As stated, these games should not be close if OSU plays even close to what they should. No one stated 21-0 or even a shutout would happen. ASU is not good by any stretch of the imagination and playing in the cold didn't help. And, FWIW, stating ASU is pretty bad does not diminish what OSU's bat and pitching did last night. It takes a very good team to take advantage of a poor performance by an opponent and not coast. Domination sends a message. One that will demoralize an inferior team as long as that level of superior play/talent doesn't take a day off.

So the single game record is 9 rbi for the Beavs. Not to belittle that achievement, that's a lot in one game, but I'm surprised it's that low. I mean, we've been playing baseball for a long ass time. I don't know. 9 rbis for one player? That's insane. If you get 4 rbis in a game, that's dang good. 5 to 6 is excellent. Anything over 6 is getting to be a career game (talking about elite levels). I know my kid had something like 12 rbis one game, but that was 3rd grade so not exactly the same caliber of competition.

Their pitcher last night was Pac 12's pitcher of week, so he was no slouch. Maybe he was off his game. Maybe we just had it clicking last night. Maybe both.

Yesterday, 21 runs scored, four Beavers with 2 or 1 RBI. Three with three or more. (3, 4, 8). Four without an RBI. My point is that even when we score 21, the RBIs get shared. Though, I have to admit, Bazzana really had a chance to break that record significantly.

4 separate pitchers on the ASU staff threw >40 pitches. Not a good thing in Game 1 of a 3 game series. Tons of positives and pretty easy to go thru each player to do so (although Boyd might not agree?!). But, with the issues we've had with our starters why in gawd's earth does Cooper need to throw 100+ pitches? Pitch the 6th or 7th with double digit lead? Ok... my only "negative". Trust Dorman. He pulled Pfennigs out before Pfinnigs knew there was a problem. I think that he's watching his pitchers carefully.
