Random thoughts...
Fuchs didn't make an error and the official scorer eventually reversed it to a hit. The strike zone tonight was a mystery to both teams.
We are fortunate that Melton wasn't Struck out on a called third strike that seemed to be a back door breaking ball. The catcher literally took off his mask and turned to talk to the ump after it was called a ball and not a strike.
I'm sure our pitchers were squeezed as well... then some of our batters Bazanna comes to mind received some bad calls.
Long story short GCU came to play and they have good pitching. As has been discussed much.... the bottom of our order has to get it going.
Forrester seemed to wake up and play a key role in this game. And what about the funky batting line up with Melton at 2 and Bazanna at 5?
Bring on game #2.... expect it to be a battle the Antelope know how close they were to pushing us to extra innings.

Bottom of the seventh for the Beavers McDowell base hit to center Smith doubles to the left corner, McDowell scores, 8-7 Grand Canyon Guerra grounds out to third, one away Dernedde flies out to center, two away Meckler doubles to left, Smith scores, tied at 8 Melton intentionally walked, two on Forrester strikes out
Tied at 8 after 7
Right before one of these doubles, I think it was Smith's, he popped up beyond third base right on the foul line and it was mishandled then dropped on the foul line. For those who know baseball better than I, how is that not a hit? I was surprised there was not discussion about it from Parker or protests from the dugout. It was so close to the line in theory I thought is was possible it could have dropped fair. The fielder interfered with it's flight so again, in theory, we're not sure where the ball would have landed untouched. What am I missing?

The player was standing in foul territory. Doesn't matter where it drops after it is touched in foul territory.

LOL... reminds me of a player on an opposing team that got a bit confused and totally confused the crowd and umpires for a second. We safety squeeze, bunt goes down the 3rd baseline and is trickling toward being foul. It is a few inches or so foul when the 3B approaches and swipes the ball... back fair! Hard enough it it goes past the charging pitcher and to the mound. Runner scores, no immediate foul ball call, hitter/runner advances to 2B, as the infield stares at each other the runner advances to 3rd. As I'm visiting to my player at 3rd telling him what we will do when he returns to the plate, fans are going crazy... ours cheering... theirs frantically yelling. Umpires are a bit flummoxed, finally call time and proceed to discuss wtf just happened. They eventually get it right, but it was a funny 5 minutes or so.

I was part of one that was even weirder than that. Ball is pulled down the 3rd base line but tailing back towards fair territory. LF goes over to catch it in foul territory, went off his glove and over the fence in fair territory (Canseco style without using his head). Required a 15 minute conference by the umps to finally figure out it was a foul ball and not a HR.

So as long as the player touches the ball while at least one of his feet is touching foul territory it's a foul.

Doesn’t matter where the feet are.
