Dalayah Daniels is transferring from Cal. She had taken a visit to OSU right before she chose Cal.
She never quite had the impact I thought she might have at Cal.

I would be very interesting if Daniels pursues OSU again - the traffic pattern is full with returning/new players. At least as I see it. GO BEAVS.

It’s still early and we won’t know if anyone plans on leaving OSU until we lose in the WNIT, but the way I see it: We’re pretty solid at the 4/5 positions. Assuming Taya doesn’t return, we’ve got Taylor, Kennedy, Jelena, Timea, and Raegan. With all of them having additional eligibility after next season, not sure there is any need for additions at those positions. Maybe one more as an insurance policy for injury, but I think it would be hard to convince a solid 4/5 to come to OSU with the depth at those positions. At the 2/3 positions we’ve got Talia, Greta, AJ, Adlee, and Lily. It’s an extremely young group. I think if the right player came along, it would be worth adding one there, especially if they’re proven and can score it. The 1 is where we clearly need help. We’ve really only got Noelle and Talia capable of playing that spot and that would not be ideal. Getting either a pure PG and/or a solid combo-guard (like Mik or Syd) is the key to next season’s success.

The portal is tough to figure. Ellie Mack came to OSU with premiere credentials, but she never really came into her own until her 2nd year in the program. The Rogers kid at Oregon - I expected her to elevate the Duck's game through the roof. She had her moments, but she was not the game changer most expected. My guess is that, like Ellie, it will take her one more year to really get her act together.
Finding a premiere point guard via the portal is not easy. Can anyone think of a team who landed a really good one? It probably happened somewhere, but I can't think of an example off the top of my head...
When I watch the women teams on TV who are still alive in the tourney I see teams with a LOT of speed at the guard position - on both offence and defense...The Beavs have a lot going for them in 22-23, but they definitely gotta increase their speed in the front court to crack the top three..... GO BEAVS

I like Daniels, and you never know about injuries (everyone you mentioned has had significant injuries in the recent past....Taya, Taylor, Kennedy, Jelena, Timea, Raegan) so it could happen again, but the real need for the Beavs is a guard, point or combo. I'd like to see a really good experienced grad transfer or upperclasswoman who is proven and a talented younger player who may not have had the opportunity to show their talent yet (say a Payton Verhulst type....not that she is transferring, but someone who was similarly highly touted but didn't get their shot this year). It's going to be a very interesting summer for sure.

GO BEAVS Not a point guard by any means, but a player who came in and showed her stuff from the beginning was Thomas from UCLA. Without her UCLA would have been a disaster this year. 15.5ppg, 5.8rpg, .543 shooting and .400 from 3. And she came from a mid-major. The Beavs would have looked completely different with someone like her on the team this year....or if they brought someone similar next year. I would prefer more of a pg but a player like Thomas, or even Shasha should have been enough to boost the Beavs into the NCAA tournament.

Daniels is a very good player. We have room for her on the roster--would certainly pass on her if Taya came back. If OSU are to get a couple of capable perimeter ball handlers in the portal, I hope OSU lands those with at least 2 years of eligibility. It is hard to be impactful within a single season. Watching the game yesterday, AJ has better dribbling skills than Greta. AJ brought the ball up against the press a couple times and Greta looked very panicked handling the ball in the backcourt. I hope both work hard in the off season on their ball dribbling "handles".

Unfortunately we also have to be aware of OSU players who may want to go in to the portal. For instance both Talia and Greta were so highly praised coming out of high school, who knows how they are reacting to the type of coaching, playing time, etc. that they are receiving from Coach Rueck. I am sure they have various people, coaches, etc. telling them they should be playing more, would do better elsewhere etc. It must be tough these days as a coach to demand the effort, and improvement that the players really need to reach their potential only to have them believe that the Coach is just the wrong coach! Sure hope we hold on to all our eligible players for next year!
Go Beavs!

GO BEAVS For landing a premier PG in the portal, look no further than NC State and Raina Perez. She's so big for them and has been since she transfered in.

I watched her quite a bit when we played Cal, and I just didn't see much. Her stats for the year were pretty anemic at that time as well - think she had only attempted three shots from beyond the arc.

4 players in the portal now from Colorado. 2 grad transfers and a walkon. Blacksten I'm not familiar with, but Finau and Tuitele where in their regular rotation.
Kylee Blacksten, 6-3 SO wing, Colorado Springs, CO
Lesila Finau, 5-9 SR combo guard, Dublin, CA (grad xfer)
Sophie Gerber, 6-0 RS FR guard, Scottsdale, AZ (walk-on)
Peanut Tuitele, 6-1 SR forward, Chico, CA (grad xfer)

Interesting info on the Colorado transfers.... I can't see the Beavs having any interest in any of them. But Tuitele could be helpful to a lot of teams - but I don't see her as a player who would he helpful to a strong team. GO BEAVS!!

I think Tuitele and Finau were probably more important to Colorado than their stats would suggest. Both started every game. With Hollingshed using up her eligibility, that's 3 players that started every game for them this year.

Colorado did a nice job of developing players like Hollingshed and Tuitele, but they haven't been able to land any blue chippers. They only had one top 100 recruit on their roster this year. I'd look for them to fade back a notch or two next season.
