so I hope this place actually talks football unlike most that have turned into d*cks/Riley 24 hour network. What do you guys think of this recruiting class so far?

none so far have given me an impression: "what were they thinking??" which happened quite abit over the years with Riley's recruiting. (although a 6'8" guy 215 pounds doesn't sound like a defensive powerhouse). If they snag some some DL "BEEF" we have best class in a long time (DE's we got may end up being big in a couple though). I'm excited to see some of the guys they got last year that went on missions but that may be another year wait?
I am surprised in how few POLY guys there are so far to be honest

What do you guys think of this recruiting class so far? really like the skill positions and REALLY like QB Moran. Really don't like the lack of beef, though we have picked ups some late OLB/DE prospects. We have got zero real DT or even OL prospects and I believe not matter what you need to be signing those types every single year. they are rare body types with a pretty big washout rate. gotta keep them coming in.

It appears that this staff decided to not make either DL or OL a priority this year but to hit it next year. Makes no sense to me, either, but assume they have their reasons.
WR strategy seems to be to focus on either the tall guy or the smaller quick and fast guy.
Don't understand the RB strategy at all. I guess Deltron Sands was OK (haven't see him but have heard good things about him). Not impressed with either of this year's RB recruits (excluding the "athletes" because I don't know where they will end up). DO like the guy from Chandler who is supposed to announce Monday. Anyway, I think in this offense, which is not a "feature back" offense, you need to combine the small quick guys with bruisers. We have, coming back, Cook (either one or two years) and Nall (three years). Could use some more.
I really like Moran too and expect him to make a run at starter sooner rather than later.

This is one of the strengths of coach Andersen's staff. They have raised the bar in recruiting and getting athletes. We aren't done!! As I've stated...they evaluate quicker, Have higher expectations then we are used to and when they get them on campus they close with the best of them. They are truly not afraid to jump in with the big boys of college football. I love the length and size of the student athletes they are recruiting on defense. Especially in the backfield. Look at some of the offers of the commits on that side of the football. Remember last year, Andersen was hired in a dead period. Then he didn't panic and scramble to find a staff. He took his time to get his guys. when everyone else in college football was closing their recruiting they were getting into the homes of these prospective student athletes to sell themselves, OSU & football. They were left to scramble and did an incredible job for what little time they had as the experts agreed. This will be OSU highest rating class ever. They again have higher standards. Respect the Process Beaver fans.... Which means confidence and patience and we all will be extremely pleased come Febuary.

I thought GA said he felt like we already had way too many scholarships allotted to OL as it is.. I could be imagining that. But we lose Mitchell and Gavin Andrews. I count about 10 schollie FR/RFR/SO OL on the roster plus Kearsley the X-Fer from BYU for next year. So I'm not too concerned w/OL. DL we lose Grimble, Peko, Robins and Barnett and the guys we return.. meh... Need to close on some guys for this class IMO. I remember WAYYYY back in August thinking that Grimble + Peko was going to be #LIGHTSOUT. Guess I had too much kool-aid that day. Sounds like we have a big time LB coming to visit this weekend. He's got just a couple of offers so far. I'll gladly take him. sports.yahoo.com/oregonstate/football/recruiting/player-Elysee-Mbem-Bosse-168719

I thought GA said he felt like we already had way too many scholarships allotted to OL as it is.. I could be imagining that. No, you're not imagining that. He said that during last year's recruiting soon after he was hired. We had a huge O-line class a year ago, and he canceled a couple of the more extreme reaches, I believe. I understand all that, but if you can't run the ball, then you need to upgrade your O-line and/or your RB situation. Maybe he likes the talent of the underclassmen on the roster. But we lose Mitchell and Gavin Andrews. We lose Mitchell for sure. Andrews they're trying for a medical redshirt. We could also lose Seumalo if he decides to take his chances with the draft as opposed to risking another year of possible re injury. Andersen likes some of the underclassmen. I don't like our depth at nose, with just Vakameilalo and the true freshman. Could be Andersen envisions bulking Sumner Houston up and having him play nose. So yeah. I remember WAYYYY back in August thinking that Grimble + Peko was going to be #LIGHTSOUT. Guess I had too much kool-aid that day. Sounds like we have a big time LB coming to visit this weekend. I doubt grimble is 100% so injury has pretty much killed his potential (too bad), Peko isn't awful too bad he screwed up and is only 1 and done, hope he's off the charts on his combine stuff or his football career may be done after these next few games.

I feel good about the athletes we are recruiting but would really like to see more linemen on both sides of the ball. DT seems kind of thin, especially for a 3-4 defense; I was actually hoping for a little JC help at the DT position this year. I also think there should be 2-3 OLs minimum in every class.
Otherwise, I especially like the secondary recruits and Mason Moran. I would like to see a 4-star RB for this offense, but I think we'll get there.

Yeah absolutely agree with you - and not blaming either kid, just chuckling about how in my orange colored glasses we were going to be unstoppable with those 2 lining up together. We've been stoppable.

Has anyone seen film on our QB commit? I know the kid has some incredible weapons around him! At three stars is he undervalued or does the four and five star kids around him mask some issues?

I like the looks of our recruits to date. I wonder how many current underclassmen players will not be hear next year? Perhaps we will see a number of JC transfers who could come in and fill both offensive and defensive lines. With such a small class of graduating seniors I am not sure how many recruits we can realistically accuire. I am excited to see our current coaching staff going after those our past staff said they couldn't get to come to Corvallis.
GO BEAVS, Ftd!

I think part of it is he sat behind the previous QB for 2-3 years so he snuck up on "those who award the stars". Actually pretty rare in this day and age given the various combines and camps and players being on the recruiting radar as early as 8th-9th grade... Anyhow, I think we're getting a stud. Shaping up to be a very good class.

Shaping up to be a very good class. Before this year he was a three star *Safety* so the kid has athleticism coming out of his ears... So when he got offered by us (and committed) as a QB, I think rivals just switched the position and didn't have any video or anything to re evaluate stars and thus left him as a 3... I think if they were to reevaluate now he would be why higher rated, at least a 4* I mean the guy is being mentioned in NATIONAL player of the YEAR articles! ( Link of POY article)

As a runner, he's not as athletic, or as fast, as Collins. Not gonna make people miss in the open field. But has a long stride and a good top gear for a running QB. And not afraid to take off. Really good field awareness. As a passer, makes the throws he needs to make, but most quality HS QBs make these throws. His supporting cast is so good he is not needing to fit the ball into tight completion windows. Looks like a nice, catchable ball. Nice touch on fades. Nice touch on short passes. Nice poise. Some times a late position change can cause problems with adjustment, decision making, etc. No way you can tell from looking at vids that he is a late convert to QB. BTW, Matt Moore went the same route. Played safety until his senior year. But I believe Matt was ranked among top 10 QBs even at that.
