It's interesting that in the two games w/o Jones two of the three double figure scorers have been forwards. Guards and posts have traditionally been Ruecks scorers. If this continues it will be a major shift in his game plan. And if it works, good on him for doing the 'ol thinking outside the box.

I agree rueck is finding points in different places. But what a waste of 6’6 player and 6’9” posts if he can’t get at least get 14 points between them. Balanced scoring makes a defense have to be more spread out. With WSU WE Won’t BE Overwhelmed BY THERE TEAM SPEED. Will be more of a blue collar game to watch. Then there’s the sixth man the refs. Yikes

Part of that could be the team leaders leading by example. We really need that from Taya and Ellie then the rest will follow. Taya has been the teams ironwoman for what seems like years, she is always in there for all the important moments in important games. She has no problem playing 40 minutes and being as tenacious at the end of the game as the beginning. Really impressive for a player that specializes in being a shut down defender.
And now we have Ellie. Even though she is also 6'3" she can play at the same time as Taya because either can play on the wing. I really like how Ellie has taken ownership of this team, she is a real leader. She is a player that I like to see on the court at crunch time.
These two allow Kennedy to help out at the post when needed, which is now that Taylor is injured.

Well I don't really think its a shift in game plan....w/o Jones we really only have 3 consistently proven offensive threats on this team....and 2 of them happen to be 6'3" forwards in Ellie and Taya, and the other is TVO.....and so these 3 most likely will be our 3 leading scorers each game until Taylor returns. Each of the other main players have shown flashes of offense but nothing dependable. The freshman other than TVO have been completely shut down by increased defensive pressure from good teams, while JM and KB are still works in progress offensively, but they have shown good potential. The transfers Tea and Emily are hit and miss offensively.....each with a couple of good offensive showings but again not dependable.

I totally agree with what you say about Taya and Ellie believeinthebeavs and your quote about Taya is worth repeating: "Taya has been the teams ironwoman for what seems like years, she is always in there for all the important moments in important games".....and guess what----even though it seems like she has been here forever.....with her injury year and covid year last year she is technically only a Jr. this year and could come back next year if she chooses----wouldn't that be nice!

I remember taya freshman year after a game she was on the floor and I introduced myself to her. I told her I like her being here and I was impressed by her game and gifts. Told her it will be fun watching her career here and thanked her for choosing the beavs. Great journeyman gal that gives everything for her team/ school Ellie might end up where she did leading her team as most valuable player in her league. She really quietly leads and is capable of anything any time. Look out pac 12! It will be so hard to replace them but then again think Fremont’s Timea and valors regan beers and this coach has really done beaver nation a great exchange of great team players. We will be blessed when Regan and Timea run down our court.

We need her for WSU WE HAVENT HAD ANYBODY WHO HAS ANY PosT MOVES FILL FOR HER. Brown tends to not want to be agrresive close to a rim. Mitrovic tends to drop her ball down and dribble dribble till she is stripped. Jones is our best post up? Ellie has the best post moves of our girls but at 6’3 with a great outside shot she isn’t our best low post defender. You’d think Taylor can give us a few minutes for post points the other girls do the rest? I’m not a doctor so who knows. Both Taylor and Brown are foul prone. Oh well Wsu has a couple up and coming posts that will try to foul us out. WSU WILL BE ANOTHER rough game. We need a sweep! Go beavs! WSU leading rebounder/shot blocker is Murekatete (6' 3" JR). This season 7.4 rpg and about 2 blocks per game (starting, and averaging just 23 minutes per game). She also leads the team in PF. In 16 games she's fouled out 3 times and reached (4) PF 3 times. In the WSU - OSU game last year at Gill (double OT loss for Beavs), she fouled out but played 32 minutes and grabbed 9 rebounds. Hopefully Brown/Mitrovic can put her in the fouled-out column, before one of them picks up 4 or 5. With the Cougs it's all about Charlisse Ledger-Walker, who has taken 27% of the teams shots this season. By comparison, TVO leads the Beavs at 20% of the total shots taken by the team. Don't forget Johanna Teder who came out of the woodwork to hit multiple 3-pointers against OSU last season. I watched WSU game vs UCLA, and Teder has now added to her game the ability to drive to the rim. Ledger-Walker sisters are not the only scoring threat.

Just To Think - Prior to the season (or even early in the season) a couple of Themes that got considerable 'play' on Bernice's Place were: a.) No way that both Taya and Ellie would be on the court at the same time - "they're the same player !!". and b.) Should Taya be a starter, or not? Thank goodness for Coach Rueck! regarding a.) In the highly competitive efforts against two top 25 teams, Taya played 80 of 85 minutes. Ellie played 54 of 85 minutes. So they were on the court together at least 49 of 85 minutes (58% of the time). Granted, the factor of Taylor being out contributed to that. regarding b.) Well....that was just cuckoo talk.

Turns out that both Taya and Ellie are leaders that will be difficult to replace. That said, this has been true for many players that have come through OSU and developed into team leaders.
If this season ends on a high note, it's looking very likely that it will be because our upperclassmen step up and grab the season by the horns (as has been true for any of Rueck's strong teams), and it really felt like the last two games that Taya and Ellie have done that - both have been in the top 3 in scoring in our two conference games. I'd add that Tea appears to be getting there as well, with 11 assists in the last two games. I thought we'd see Codding bring in shooting efficiency as her senior contribution, hopefully that is coming.
