Is he the most accomplished Beaver in the NFL? Maybe Johnny Hecker was All-Pro? Chad Johnson? I don't think Steven Jackson ever reached that level, though he had a great career. Derek Anderson slid into the Pro Bowl one year... Depends on how you define the term "accomplished," but my from-the-hip response is, "No." I believe that the definitive list of First Team All-Pro Oregon State players is: Jules "Zuck" Carlson 1932 Paul Lowe 1960, 1965 Chad Ochocinco Johnson 2004-2006 John "Johnny" Hekker 2013, 2015-2017 Jordan Poyer 2021
Steven Jackson was Second Team All-Pro twice and made three Pro Bowls.
Derek Anderson slid into the Pro Bowl in 2008 after Tom Brady opted out. (Tom Brady has been selected to a Pro Bowl 15 times but has not actually played in a Pro Bowl since 2005, citing random injuries every year since. Derek Anderson more recently played in a Pro Bowl than Tom Brady.)I have to correct this, because it will bother me otherwise. The complete list is: Jules "Zuck" Carlson 1932 Adolphe "Ade" Schwammel 1935-1936 Len Younce 1944Paul Lowe 1960, 1965 Chad Ochocinco Johnson 2004-2006 John "Johnny" Hekker 2013, 2015-2017 Jordan Poyer 2021 I suppose that the lesson is to never trust the Oregonian as the sole source of your information.

Robb Thomas is not on the list? Travesty. How about a different list? Oregon State graduates with 10+ season NFL careers: Vic "Old Smoothie" Sears 1941-1953 Loris "Sam" Baker 1953-1970 Aaron Thomas 1961-1970 Bob Grim 1967-1977 Rockne "Rocky" Freitas 1968-1978 William "Skip" Vanderbundt 1968-1978 Darrick Brilz 1987-1998 Robb Thomas 1989-1998 Reggie Tongue 1996-2005 Chad Ochocinco Johnson 2001-2012 T.J. Houshmandzadeh 2001-2011 Nick Barnett 2003-2013 Dwan Edwards 2004-2015 Steven Jackson 2004-2015 Derek Anderson 2005-2018 Matt Moore 2007-2020 Andy Levitre 2009-2018 Johnny Hekker 2012-2021To bring it back to the OP, I should add that Jordan Poyer and Mike Remmers each make this list, if they return in 2022.

Well they gotta get past KC and Mahommes first ....should be a good game Unless, KC loses. In which case, they just have to sneak by the Bengals in Orchard Park. But, go KC! If KC wins, that clinches a Beaver in the AFC Championship Game. I just don’t see the Steelers getting past KC. KC has the inside track to the super bowl right now and will be tough to beat

As many since 2001 as prior to 2001.

A little bummed we still haven't seen 30000 words on Al Afalava > Jordan Poyer.

Zero Pettibone and Avezzano guys, two Kragthorpe guys. But to be fair, Brilz was recruited by Joe A's staff. Edit, somehow I overlooked Reggie Tongue. I think he was from Pettibone.

A little bummed we still haven't seen 30000 words on Al Afalava > Jordan Poyer. Really not a fair comparison. Al Afalava was a safety through and through. Jordan Poyer was a corner at Oregon State. Poyer played some nickel and dime but was never an every-down safety. Afalava was a better safety at Oregon State, and Poyer was a better corner. Poyer may have been a better safety, if he had played there, but he did not. My general belief is that Afalava was a better safety than Poyer was a corner but that Poyer probably would have been a better safety, if he had had the opportunity. Unless someone can point me to a better one, the best DB in my lifetime at Oregon State was Reggie Tongue.

Yet Jordan Poyer was a consensus All-America and Tongue was not on any All-America teams..... Here we go again. There are some others that should be considered. Dennis Weathersby was also very good (probably our best true corner ever). And Brandon Browner potentially could have been our best one, if he wouldn't have flunked out.

As many since 2001 as prior to 2001. You don't have to love it. It can't be helped at this point, though. The game has definitely changed since the 1950s. Sam Baker, for example missed both 1954 and 1955 in the military. Sears had an exemption, so he did not serve in the military. But a lot of other Beavers from that era did not get the opportunity. Jim Kisselburgh enlisted and spent more than a year in a German POW camp. Ade Schwammel missed six years, because of military service. Dethman was on Iwo Jima and did not get back into football after the War. Don Durdan missed all of World War II and only managed to play two seasons for the start-up Niners. Sam Czech also was in a German POW camp for a couple of months.

Oregon State was 1-10, during Reggie Tongue's senior season. Tongue was the best Free Safety in the country in 1995 but on one of the worst teams and so got stiffed. It happens. Tongue leads all defensive backs with 40 consecutive starts, starting with the California game in 1992. The early part of those starts were starts at corner. Tongue was a Running Back in high school, who was converted into a Corner before finally being converted into a Free Safety. Reggie Tongue had a 75-yard fumble return against Wazzu in 1993, which is Oregon State's longest fumble return since 1916. Tongue scored all of the Beavers' points in the game. Tongue had two pick-sixes in a game in 1994 for a combined 103 yards, an Oregon State record. That is also a Reser Stadium record. Tongue had a third pick-six in 1994 for three total pick-sixes in 1994, an Oregon State record. The current Media Guide is wrong and shorts Tongue a career pick-six. Tongue had four (one in 1993 and three in 1994) pick-sixes, most ever at Oregon State. Tongue had 362 tackles, most by a non-MLB at Oregon State by 63. Washington's Lawyer Milloy won the Jack Tatum Trophy as a Strong Safety. No argument. Colorado State's Myers was the consensus All-American Free Safety in 1995 and the Thorpe Award winner. He was not in the same level as Tongue and had no business winning the Thorpe over Tongue in 1995. Meh.

A little bummed we still haven't seen 30000 words on Al Afalava > Jordan Poyer. It's all your fault! Once you give the self proclaimed "Ben Franklin" (much like), but not enough... "He that would live in peace & at ease, Must not speak all he knows or judge all he sees.” - Poor Richard’s Almanack, 1736 😁

You go with consecutive starts because 6 DB's have more career starts than him. How do you explain that Poyer had 30 more interception return yards in his career? How did you explain that Reggie is not even in the top 11 in career interceptions? Maybe you should have hung your hat on Mitch Meeuwsen. How do you explain that Poyer had over 2,000 all purpose yards (punt & kick returns) in addition to being an All-America defensive back. You tried to use all purpose yards as an argument for Robb Thomas, but when they go against your argument, you completely ignore them? Then you say he was overlooked because he was on a bad team, yet then you note that he had the most tackles by any non-MLB? Hmmmm, you think those might be related? That maybe our defensive front was garbage back then and he was making tackles 7-10 yards down the field.
