Good turnout with the crowd tonight and much better than what I expected. Taya is definitely a solid go to player but there needs to be some others that need to step up their game offensively. Jelena especially truggled tonight with her shots.
Some of the scoring droughts were frustrating to watch and it was like if they could just make a run it would force AZ into some hurry up situations. I did not see the USC win against them but I feel they are a beatable team if you play a little more physical as they do. Maybe that is one thing that USC did to neutralize them?

Kennedy had 4 fouls. With 47 secs on the clock and the game tied she should have went in. Also Jelena should have taken one step and made a layup instead of shooting from 15 feet.

Sam Thomas is a helluva defender. It was also fun watching Cate Reese and Taya go at it. That was a great matchup!

On the bright side, our senior leader really showed up tonight. Career high 19 points for Taya and she’s off to an impressive start in conference play. We’re going to need her to log some big minutes this year. Without her level of play on both ends of the floor, this game could’ve gotten ugly for the Beavs. I loved our fight tonight though. We’ve got to remember how young this team is, with Greta and AJ playing their first Pac-12 games tonight. They will settle in. Overall pretty pleased with our performance considering we were without Taylor and coming off a long break. It seemed like we were much more aggressive defensively. Just need to take care of the ball, especially when the pressure is on. Go beavs!! Overall a very good effort. A few miscues at untimely moments made the difference. Arizona made some as well, but Beavs didn't capitalize. Talia's late over-and-back is something I hope to never see again. Oddly, there were at least 3 other occasions during the game when it came within inches of happening (and I think it did happen one other time, but it wasn't called). I say oddly, because I do not recall her typically pausing with the ball so soon after crossing midcourt. Credit to UA for picking on that point of vulnerability. The team really missed having Taylor on the boards (and available as a part of the tall-woman rotation). KB was pretty silent on the boards as a 'replacement' (2 rebounds in 20 minutes). Ann Schatz referred to Taya at least a half dozen times as a "5th year Senior"....Taya, who received her degree in June 2021, is actually a Redshirt Junior in the wacky world of NCAA/COVID 'basketball years'. At any rate, she is the team leader, and she played a helluva game. Maybe her pal Aleah was able to see it - though Duke got badly outscored tonight in the 2nd half (40-22) and lost to Virginia Tech.

WTF do you call those "throws" Reece shoots? My complaint on TC has always been that she's better than she plays. She's deferred far too much during her time here. She's played with other great players, but always thought she could have been a 13/10 type consistently. Hope she continues tonight's play all season.

Beavs played very well all things considered. Only question I have is why wasn't Tea Adams running the point when we were up 53-49? Tea hardly played in Q4, and frankly did the best job defending Pellington the entire game.

Emiiy C. got up slow awhile later and limped towards the locker room, was back on the bench later, no idea what that was about, hopefully just cramping, here was her shining moment:

I am still mad about how the game played out. From the get go they attacked our Achilles heel: back court pressure. For Rueck's entire tenure, we have done one thing that frustrates me and it is: "Only player "A" shall inbound the ball...ever!" You see the pressure. You know it is coming. Instead of grabbing the ball, inbounding and breaking the press before it starts...we wait. Many times you will see player B C D or E bend or lean to grab the ball and get things going, then stop and move away to their rote position. The inbounder finally arrives, grabs the ball, steps over the end line and waits for the defense to get set. WHY! We also take too damn long to get over the time line--that leads directly to the traps at mid-court where we risk over and back too often. We were crossing mid-court almost every time with 21 seconds on the shot clock--even when we inbounded from the side on an errant pass or travel call. I know that it is part of the plan to shorten the game with ball control, patient offensive sets and passing for the best shot. It is great when it works and you look up to see us up 15; but it is painful to watch when we are behind...or in a close game where it seems no one wants to take the shot. I am not calling out players, this is all coaching. That said, Scott Rueck is still the best basketball coach I have seen at OSU since Ralph Miller (and may well have done more with less). It is just very frustrating to watch games like last night where you not only had a chance, but should have won the game.

Tea hardly played in Q4, and frankly did the best job defending Pellington the entire game. Agree with lotrader 100%. Talia's back-to-back turnovers on no-shot possessions for the Beavs under three minutes allowed Arizona to remain close enough. Both of those turnovers (and she had 5 during the game) were relatively careless plays that I hope she learns from and doesn't repeat. The over-and-back turnover started it, then the bounce pass in the lane to a 6'9" Mitrovic was a poor choice. Talia's cold-blooded jumper over Reese had given the Beavs a four-point lead (53-49) with under three minutes to play, but her choices during the next two Beavers possessions gave Arizona a chance to pull it out. Greta's shot (1/9 from the field) and confidence were off last night. Adams with her pass-first mentality and solid ball handling skills would probably have been the better choice down the stretch for the Beavs, especially against strong and quick guards that Arizona is able to put on the floor. Opportunity lost last night. Would have been a significant conference win, especially considering that Taylor Jones was unavailable to play.
