When was that announced? I may have missed it, but I looked this morning (EST) and I'm pretty sure the game was still on the schedule.
The game-watching pickings are getting pretty slim, friends.

Thanks, and wow. Yikes. That's a tough one for the players.

I’m betting it’s sac state that had to call the game. This covid s%#t has gotten f%#*ing old real damn fast. Pretty sure we only had 9 players available for the Utah game because of our own COVID issues. Makes you wonder if the CW game this weekend is also in trouble now. After the issues we had last month I was hopeful that having to postpone games due to our own issues were past us. Doesn't look like it.

Anybody know when the players/staff are tested? Day of game? Day before?

It seems as if pretty much everyone on the team has had it now, so hopefully with the 5 day waiting period, they will be ready to go on Saturday.

They can’t have a better system than one where they’re still testing during warmups?

My wife had a procedure at providence Portland today. She had to have a drive thru covid test three days prior - new years eve. She knew Saturday morning she was negative and ready to go to providence today. Why does it take an hour before a game whether a player can or can't play?

At some point they may shrink that 3 day window for procedures. You can catch it and it'll take a few days to build up enough in your system for a positive test, and now they're thinking it's quite possible you literally can catch omicron and spread it for a day or so before finally testing positive. At any rate, a negative test today doesn't mean you don't have it and won't test positive tomorrow. Last I heard (my wife is in hospital healthcare and genetics), they're thinking most cases can take 3 days or so to show up on rapid tests. If you test clean over a 3-4 day time span you're likely clean that last day- unless you were exposed within that time. A negative test does not mean you won't test positive tomorrow or the next day. Let's face it campus, and campus sports, is a big continually stirred petrie dish and the new variant is highly transmissible.

WHAT will the next variant offer?

WHAT will the next variant offer? It's science so there's no guarantees. But, virus genetic transitions are typically "weaker", more contagious as they progress thru mutations. There of course have been outliers to this. And, it'd help a ton if humans/science would stop dicking around with such "experiments"!
