Texas A & M out of Gator Bowl due to Covid and lack of players . Officials looking for team to Play Wake Forest Not so fast, my friend. According to Pete Thamel: "[O]ne of the optinos being discussed is finding a team that's already played in a bowl game. They'd need to get a waiver to play in another." List of teams that have already played a bowl game: Coastal Carolina Northern Illinois Middle Tennessee Toledo Western Kentucky App State Fresno State UTEP UAB BYU Liberty Eastern Michigan Utah State Oregon State Louisiana Marshall Tulsa Old Dominion Wyoming Kent State San Diego State UTSA Outside of BYU, I like Oregon State's chances on that list. The Gator Bowl and Wake Forest are looking for a new opponent and must make a new selection by noon on Friday.

It would more likely be somebody like BYU or even Utah State . To show you how much I pay attention to the bowl games, I thought the Gator Bow had died off long ago

It would more likely be somebody like BYU or even Utah State . To show you how much I pay attention to the bowl games, I thought the Gator Bow had died off long ago The Gator Bowl is the sixth oldest bowl game: 1. Rose Bowl 2. Orange Bowl 3. Sugar Bowl 4. Sun Bowl 5. Cotton Bowl 6. Gator Bowl
The 1962 Oregon State Beavers were in consideration for a Gator Bowl Berth against Penn State, but accepted the sure-thing Liberty Bowl berth before Miami won the Battle for the War Canoe (Florida-Miami Rivalry Game).
San Diego State might make the most sense, because the Aztecs just played and won yesterday. Tulsa and Wyoming are about in the same boat. BYU, Oregon State, UAB and Utah State are in the next batch of teams. I am not sure how feasible it would be to get everyone over to Gainesville to play Wake Forest in nine days. Still, Oregon State is the only Power Five team that has played.

I would also point out that the next team available through APR would be 5-7 Rutgers with a 979 APR. I know that 5-7 Texas with a 974 APR and first-year coach Steve Sarkisian was really itching to go to a bowl game.

Stanford was the last Pac-10/12 team to play in the Gator Bowl in 1986, a 27-21 loss to Clemson in front of 80,104.
The Gator Bowl is played at TIAA Bank Field, where the Jaguars normally play home games.

Apparently, Texas A&M was down to 38 scholarship players due to injuries and COVID-19 and only 13 players on defense.

Continuing on this, it is being reported that Rutgers has already indicated that they will not accept an invitation to play in the Gator Bowl. 5-7 California is next in line. FanNation's Jake Curtis has an article on California maybe getting an invitation. Apparently, around four teams have already contacted officials expressing interest. Two of those are 5-7 Illinois (behind California and Texas in line of 5-7 teams) and Marshall, which lost to Louisiana in the New Orleans Bowl on Saturday. Can someone at Oregon State make a call and set this up? Jacksonville, here we come!

First, I do not think there is any way OSU could scramble to get all the players back and ready in time, let alone to FL. Second, I watched parts of several WF games. If we thought the LA Bowl was bad! OSU wants no part of a WF offense coming in with little or no prep. This fan is ready to move on from the 2021 season.

Pete Thamel is now saying that Rutgers might want to play in the Gator Bowl after all.
A group of at least 11 Utah State players have started advocating for Utah State to replace Texas A&M.

I personally am a fan of Oregon State's returning players getting as many extra practices as humanly possible. Other teams seem keen to go. I do not know why Oregon State would be any worse off than any of those teams, other than distance. Oregon State baseball successfully made it to Gainesville with four days' notice back in 2010. I am sure that we could put together a team in Jacksonville with eight days' notice.

I did not go to LA (what with me having COVID-19 and whatnot). But I might go to Jacksonville, if they give me enough advance notice.

There is some chatter that the preferred option is for Illinois or Rutgers to replace Texas A&M. But that assumes that a team that has been off for 25 days can get back together and play in a bowl game. If no 5-7 team can go, they likely will invite a team that has already played in a bowl game. There is supposed to be some sort of preliminary decision tomorrow.
But there is also some chatter that Miami may have to pull out of the Sun Bowl. If that happens, maybe Wake plays Wazzu in Gator or Sun and two other teams play in the other bowl game.
I still have to believe that Oregon State is pretty high on the list of teams that the bowl games want to invite.
