I flew over Corvallis today and captured this view of Reser..... Not a great photo (I was solo, so I spent all of 3 seconds fiddling with my phone), but perhaps a different perspective for folks until someone flies a drone over it. Enjoy! Go Beavers! Attachments:

Excellent 2ndGen - thank you. This view makes it look better than the photos on google shot from the northeast grandstand structure. I know it would be expensive, but now on my wish list is an extended concourse/deck from above section 228 traversing behind the scoreboard, somehow above the roof of the new medical structure, and then connecting to sections 226 and 227. A couple other thoughts: what is the little structure near the track that would be at about the fictional starting point of a 150 dash? And is something going on between the soccer field pitch and the left field line of the softball field? Again, thanks 2ndGen.

symmetrical (or close to it)would look better, but a massive improvement over what it was. Thanks for the pic...keep your eyes on the 'road' though! Thanks @ftd ! I was at 3000', had already called my intent to overfly the Corvallis airport at that altitude (winds were favoring landing on runway 28) and there was no other traffic making radio calls - from the shadows you might see that it was very early morning. Had I been on an approach to runway 17 (the primary N-S runway whose approach path takes you right over campus) or there was other aerial activity I would likely not have a picture to share with you.....good guidance regardless. I completely agree with your other point as well - I wish more effort had gone into making the stadium more symmetrical as well. I suppose in time we will get used to the disparity in bowl and overhang, but it seems like utilitarian really carried the day, and aesthetics took a bit of a back seat. Some of the early renderings (we just had that discussion here regarding the T&F renderings) had me excited for the 'proposed' symmetry. Go Beavers!

I know there was a large contingent that wanted a mirror of the East side. While financially, logistically and maybe practically it couldn’t be done, it sure would have looked amazing. Originally I was fine with the smaller option. From some perspectives the West side looks great but from other vantages it looks small and unimpressive. I think it looks great driving up Western toward the Stadium. It feels more imposing than the old Grandstand. Close up, it mostly feels “massive”. Now that I look at it, it is an improvement but I think something I was hoping for was the intimidation factor. While the new side looks great and will hold in the noise, it doesn’t quite have that intimidation factor. I am not complaining and am very excited for the new Stadium. I am just thinking “what if”? I don’t see any more expansion for quite sometime. They have replaced or improved all but the South end zone. It will be difficult to put a new level with the Student Health Center. I guess, let’s just enjoy more success on the field. Go Beavs!

I don't see how you're going to get an intimidation factor out of a 9000 seat sideline grandstand. That is close to the sideline seating the stadium had when it was first built in 1952. The high aspect look of the multiple short, baseball style, decks is smoke and mirrors.
Anyway, this ship has sailed. If they decide they need to expand further I'm thinking about the roof of the Valley Center which seems to line up pretty well with the third tier of the new side. If they did it right (probaby won't) it would give them a chance to have some architectural harmony between the new side and the Valley Center.

It was very loud without anyone on that side. It will be very loud if we can fill it.

It will be very loud. The hope of a second deck in the South end zone is a true pipe dream.

Here is what he said: " Now that I look at it, it is an improvement but I think something I was hoping for was the intimidation factor. While the new side looks great and will hold in the noise, it doesn’t quite have that intimidation factor." He was talking about intimidation factor apart from noise--the visual aspect of the new side--and so was I. I've been going games going back to when the stadium held 28,000 first time around, last year included.

Are there any “intimidating” stadiums (absent fans & noise) in the Pac-12?

symmetrical (or close to it)would look better, but a massive improvement over what it was. Thanks for the pic...keep your eyes on the 'road' though! Cause you know, this looks "symetrical" and all, but their "Claim to fame" is their crowd noise. How many false starts did USC have at Reser last year? I would love to see the stats of false starts and delay of games in Reser last season compared to years past. Then compare those stats to games at Autzen. Here is a true comparison to Reser Stadium in Army's football stadium. They have a 38,000 seat stadium. Their East sideline reminds me of the 2003 and earlier seasons of the East side at Reser Stadium. They are renovating their East Side to this: East Sideline RenderingAttachments:

They have replaced or improved all but the South end zone.
Elwood, the current south end zone was added in 2007 or 2008. It was not part of the original new east side grandstand (see above). The Michie Stadium project will be great, the Cadet side of the stadium is very old, but the new construction will block the view of the Reservoir to much of the current west side. Michie Stadium is a must-see if you're a college football fan. Attachments:images.jfif (13.37 KB)
