The thing that changed concession lines was.... BEER! When they started selling beer and wine to the masses, the lines got very long and (recall this is pre-covid) OSU didn't do much to alleviate that. Alcohol also makes hiring more difficult as the church youth groups and boy scout groups who would volunteer for concessions as a way to fundraise typically can't serve beer and wine. This year covid made it all better (less people at the games) and worse (less workers at the games), but covid (and "quitflation" or "the great quitpression" or whatever they are calling it) isnt going away anytime soon, so either the customers will have to get used to it (Winco bin candy and flask in the pockets of my oversized coat for the win), or OSU will have to figure it out, or... most likely... we will all get to continue to complain while nothing changes

Or maybe some see a potential problem that may have not been addressed by those that are in charge. They have tried and tried to hire more people. They had numerous people not show up. What do you suggest they do? Some people don't get this. If your expecting 250 people and 175 show up,where do you get people to replace them on short notice? There isn't a pool of people on a whim you can call up. Also, there aren't multiple companies to contract with who do this type of work. Everybody is having the same issues. Texas had 500 people not show up...

How about starting a program that will credit student's tuition/housing/food costs for work? You have tens of thousands of potential workers at your fingertips.

How did the construction thread become a “long lines for food” thread?
Seems like it deserves its own game day operations thread. Doesn’t really have much if anything to do with construction. I suppose for some folks every topic ultimately boils down to food.

Construction and adding new concessions might alleviate this problem if we have the people to work it. Can't wait to see the new food options in 2023

Can't wait to see the new food options in 2023 Doesn’t make any difference how many concession stands you build if you can’t staff them. And staffing is is an operational issue outside the realm of design and construction. As is whether they contract Qdoba or Taco Time or Bob’s Hamburgers.

Maybe I'm just hoping the job market is better come September 2023 when the stadium opens up. If I'm Scott Barnes, try to make sure the business that are contracted to have food in Reser stadium can staff them properly. That could be Qdoba or any other restaurants that want a spot on the new West side of Reser Stadium. Maybe it's food trucks...maybe it's just concessions. Many of the people willing to step up and buy tickets on the West side don't want peanuts, hot dogs, popcorn, and standard beers. They want fancier food, ciders, microbrews, etc. It your paying top dollar for seats, you want top shelf food and drink.

They were never terrible and they were never great, just a good reliable no-frills, generic burger. And that’s what I went to them for. I also remember the cigarette vending machines. 40 cents a pack.

The Golden Grill has reproduced them and I can attest that they taste the same to me. www.goldengrillsalem.com/images/menu.pdf

I've been out of town for a week, catching up I see lots of concessions talk....
Did they blow it up as planned and are there any links to the video? There's got to be a video somewhere.

Not happening until 1/7/22 Blowing it up on New Years Eve would have been cool. Lots of overtime probably makes it impractical.

Spud, Spud, Spud....that's TOO practical. WAY too intelligent. Thinking "outside the box" has NO place in this discussion, obviously.
