Wow. No talk about the game. Just crap about Jimmy Kimmel. I watch him for about 2 minutes. What a wasted thread.

Don't think of it as the personal bowl game of Jimmy Kimmel. It's a sponsorship. No different than any other. Rather than label it the "ESPN LA Bowl" or the "ABC News LA Bowl" they decided to name it after one of their television programs. If it was "The Bachelorette LA Bowl" would anyone care? Like everything else in bowl season, it's all about the $. Late night TV has been dying for years, maybe this is a way to generate some buzz to get more eyeballs on their TV show, end of story. The articles I saw said he paid for it himself. Somewhere between $300k and $1M. Look it up though! You are right, but at the same time, promoting himself really is promoting the show. It is called the Jimmy Kimmel show. There is also a reason he has an investment banker partner on it.

What would you like to talk about? Avery Roberts isn't playing (bad). We need to run the ball, tackle well. Get some pressure, avoid turnovers. Ultimately I'd like to see us score more points than Utah St. #Analysis

I have to say, I really appreciate all the effort you guys are putting into making me feel at home here! Aside from the color scheme, this is JUST LIKE my home fan board, USUfans.com; threads getting hijacked, irrelevant tangents, political squabbling. Thanks!
We do have one feature that you might want to consider. It's a forum called "The Sandbox". All things political go there. If a thread gets too political, the moderators just move it over to The Sandbox; no discussion. I never go to The Sandbox. I don't want to see other guys' political opinions. I choose to focus on the things that we all have in common, our love of Utah State, and all things Aggie athletics. But that's just me...

Those are all the things we are best at. Especially when there's down time between games. Oh, and "politics" aren't allowed here. Doesn't always stop it from happening, as you can see.

I think it is a fair question... why is it the Jimmy Kimmel Bowl? We don't see the Dave Letterman Bowl in the history of bowl games. He dressed in blackface several times, once making a Karl Malone impersonation that was less than admirable. Where does that land on the scoreboard of being "a great human being"?/ I don't find him to be funny, regardless of his politics or mine. In a time period where Bowl games are typically sponsored by corporations I find it odd this on is sponsored by a "celebrity/comedian". Blackface is bad... but you are a madman if you don't think "Why don't they call it the Liv-A-Beetus and give some people some hope?" from that infamous deep thoughts from Karl Malone bit wasn't comedy gold. All time best dad joke ever... unfortunately wrapped up in a highly racist package. I can't keep up with when we can, and cannot cancel a person based on things they did 20+ years in the past and have since said they are sorry. As a person that is really progressive and not some slacker-ass keyboard social justice warrior, I think you can't simultaneously advocate for "banning the box" and forcing employers and business owners to turn a blind eye to past criminal records for potential employees (i.e advocate for criminal justice system reform) AND be the type of person to get your panties in a twist about behavior that, while clearly racist, in the era was not close to as taboo as it is now. It is bulls%#t and hypocritical. Did he apologize and does he behave that way now? yes or no? has amends been made? yes or no? really that is all you need to ask and know. You are totally allowed to dislike Kimmel, like I said up there, I don't watch his talk show (I did watch the Man show back in the day because I was about 20 when it was a big deal... I was the demographic) I don't really care about him one way or another... Heck you are totally allowed to question the direction of college football if we are at the point we are letting celebrities buy bowl games... whatever. I want to be clear I am not defending Kimmel. I honestly don't care. The above was both being the devil's advocate and expressing my own thoughts on the bulls%#t of our cancel culture. I am, however, arguing the sociology of what is happening in this thread. I do get amused at the odd little culture wars we all fight, and the bizarre ways we show our tribal affiliations in life... The original complaint was not about the economics of Football, or the potential negative consequences of capitalism and business exploitation of college students. Things that really actually have larger world consequences... No, it was annoyance at a hollywood elite based soley on his status of being... a hollywood elite...ahem, Lib. Mind you, I wonder if the OP would classify Clint Eastwood, an actor in literally hundreds of productions, director, writer, etc and a net worth exceeding $375 million as a "hollywood elite"? or if he gets the pass because the he doesn't hit the Lib check mark. If Clint Eastwood started the Clint Eastwood Presents the Guns, Guts and God Texas Bowl... do you ask the same questions? (side note, I'd like Clint Eastwood to start the Guns, Guts and God Bowl, please.) AND he's a COMEDIAN. His job is to challenge how we see the world. Sometimes they are brilliant, other times it's "OMG, did he really say that?" so, does that mean that Ben Stiller, Cameron Diaz, et al should be burned at the stake for ridiculing crips in "There's Something About Mary?" Look, as a crip, they missed badly on that one. If you're going to go there, it had better be good. They screwed the pooch.

I don't think I'm a mad man... lol.
I think the interesting part of this conversation is what makes a person a "great human being". That will be different for all of us for sure, as it should be.
Maybe Jimmy Kimmel bought the bowl game to remake himself after taking the summer of 2020 off following the Black Face apology/drama? I don't know only he can answer. But paying for a bowl game and even giving money to non profits don't hit my scorecard for great human being. Just being honest on my reaction to the comments and the general conversation.
I can honestly say I enjoy many people with wildly different values and beliefs than I have. I'm delighted we are in a bowl game and I will be in attendance. I'm crossing my fingers Jimmy Kimmel doesn't get in the way of a good time, as any human is capable of doing.
All smiles here... bring on a bowl game!

I merely asked what made him "a great human being." Still waiting. The Man Show I finally figured that out from the posts. Only saw it a couple of times, but yeah, I get it!

Honestly I don't know if ANY of us has the right to judge him a tool...he's a celebrity sure, and so he called out Drumpf....beyond that I know really not much about him, nor do I profess to. He MAY be a tool, but just because he has different political beliefs than you doesn't make him one. Right, left....we as a society need to be able to disagree with one another and not make it a personal thing or a character judgment. I'm guilty of it as well....working on it. Kimmel is all about money, period. Dude would be cancelled for the man show in today's climate, but he's shifted to being a bleeding heart....and now he's just part of the Hollywood dolts who don't think for themselves....or at least they present themselves in a way to make sure they aren't cancelled by the mob. So you call Trump, Drumpf and then proceed to talk about coming together..... (Dr Evil voice) "You just don't get it, do ya Scott?" The main issue with this country is the lib elites who think they are are morally, and intellectually superior.....it's that F'n simple. I think Americans in general, regardless of beliefs, tend underestimate the amount of people in this country who don't think like they do.....difference is the far left is aggressively trying to change how everyone thinks, and it's dangerous. And I realize a good majority on here who post are pretty far left, so I'm sure I'll get roasted.

I totally forgot about Kimmel's blackface! How the hell did he survive that one? I guess enough grovelling and pandering to his lib elite masters saved him?

I'm a lifelong registered I, and cannot stand the propaganda from either side, but I know which side I hear it most from, obsessively, and it's that side that would (and do) label me "pretty far left" since I'm simply not one of them. But I do get a big kick out of the "liberal elite" talking point that gets sold by the likes of the Murdochs and the Mercers and Trumps to the average joe blow who mindlessly consume it because it fits their narrative. I mean Donald Trump was the epitome of "liberal elite" until he wasn't! Registered D, pro choice, corporate welfare whore, supported ban on assault weapons. Now look at him! Anyway...lock this s%#t Glove! Go Beavs...save the Pac 12 from the "liberal elites" of the MWC
