You reap what you sew. This is what happens when you run a soulless program based on flash and style and nothing to do with substance. You end up with hired guns looking to move on to the next shiny object. Reminds me of the old Johnny Carson story of asking a women if she would sleep with him for a million dollars and she says yes. then asking would she do it for 5 dollars. When she said what do you think I am he say we have already established what you are now we are just negotiating a price.

Is it really soulless to jump out of program when your home program wants you to come coach it? We all love the fact Smith came back to OSU to lead us to winning again, so far, so good. Word is he turned down much more money to stay at Oregon to go to Miami. Maybe he really wants to coach at Miami?

Probably made his choice easy. You are spot on though...Miami is not a great gig. And as we are finding out with frequency, neither is Oregon.

All of this goes to show, if you hire an "up and comer" or a "splashy hire" be prepared for them to move on a lot quicker than you would like them to. Which is why I say, HIRE TRENT BRAY!!! This is where he wants to be, he is currently qualified for the job and in 2 years he'll have the experience you'd want him to have anyway.

I agree that there is just a ton of competition in Florida for everything and I am not sure Miami is on the forefront of it. MC ranked up a 35-13 record, which is real good, but his tenure is littered with some red flags and cracks in the veneer. I think long story short, despite the strong record, he underachieved relative to his recruits. He also seemed to have a problem getting his own QB. He inherited Herbert, guys after him were not even close to his equal. One should also note how relatively poorly ducks performed with prime Herbert... That guy put that team on his back far more than he gets credit for. I feel a lot of wins over the last few years were in spite of MC, not because of him.

Lots of banter. I am glad they seem to lose out. Funny I wish we were as good on the field. We are not. Seems they should look for someone with ties period. Chip Kelly maybe he has been figured out. Whiting ham sounds absurd to Me. They will likely go for a splash and it may blows up. Helfrich had a better record than Crustobol. Suddenly He became bad? Wonder what you guys said about Him? Hmmmm.

Why do we all assume Jonathan Smith's undying loyalty to Oregon State? If we had gone 10-2 or 11-1 this year, he would have been a candidate for higher profile jobs. As a fierce competitor, would he really want to stay at a low profile alma mater or move up the food chain to compete with the best?
I don't see a young up and comer ever staying at OSU for extended success. Let's not fool ourselves.

It's home. Don't blame him one bit.

He got 10 years for $80 million at Miami. Not much of a difference considering Florida has no state income tax.

Don't forget about what his Oregon PERS payment would be if he was a state employee long enough.... He's not in PERS tier 1 or even tier 2. OPSRP is not nearly as lucrative. He's no Bellotti, Aliotti, Campbell etc..... that are making bank from Tier 1. Riley wasn't even in Tier 1.

Planting corn in Oregon? I hear tell it's suppose to be knee high by the 1st of July. Mine never gets there.
It's more like..."Up to my member by the 1st of September".
