Beavers most likely to LA Bowl against Utah State. All GA references aside, I don't like this matchup nearly as much as San Diego State. The Aztecs are a very good defensive team with pretty extreme offensive limitations. They were able to overcome those most of the season, but I had a feeling the Aggies would expose them. So now OSU gets a much more balanced team that will be on a roll and looking for a big win against a Pac-12 school. QB can cause some issues for the OSU defense with his legs and arm talent. Beavers should be able to move the ball, but absolutely have to put the ball in the end zone consistently. Should be a good game.

Did you have this feeling before or after seeing the score? 😉

Utah State Would be a fun game for the Beavs. They have a good group of receivers to compliment QB Logan Bonner, the Texas gunslinger who returns in 2022 for his 7th year of college - one redshirt year, one medical redshirt year, one Covid year and next, his 4th season of competition in '22. He came with new USU Coach from Arkansas State. USU is 10-3 heading into the Bowl Season. They had 3 signature wins this season, beating Air Force, San Diego State and Washington State.

Yes, I had a feeling, a hunch, that Utah State would exploit some of San Diego State's shortcomings. That was based on what I have seen of the Aztecs this season. I did not expect a blowout win.

I am sure Calvin Tyler Jr will be nice and motivated for that game. Always liked the kid good running back.

I am sure Calvin Tyler Jr will be nice and motivated for that game. Always liked the kid good running back. Well, he had 17 carries for 42 yards. 2 carries went for 26 and 17 yards. So 15 rushes netted a -1 yard. Bizarre, but if we play them I’ll worry about their BYU aged Qb.

Well, that USU v SDSU score was misleading in a sense... ~TWENTY (20) SDSU players tested positive for COVID this past week and didn't play yesterday. I imagine the score could have been quite different had SDSU played with a full squad.

Utah State ranked 26th and 27th in polls this morning (Sunday 12/5).
Some other team (that has been double-spanked by a different Utah team) only dropped to 15th.

Hi guys. Utah State fan here. Actually, I live just up the road in Salem. USU fans are really excited about this game. We only joined the Mountain West conference in 2013. This is our first MW conference football championship.
A brief fan's run down of our team: We have a pass first offense, led by QB Logan Bonner and WR Devin Tompkins. Bonner is a 6th year junior (RS, med-RS, covid) who followed our new head coach Blake Anderson from Arkansas State. Bonner is a traditional pocket passer. He does occasionally scramble when he absolutely has to. He holds the USU record for single season passing touchdowns, and just set the MW record for passing touchdowns in the championship game. Unfortunately, our offensive line is a little too small for a pocket passer. The three games in which we really got our butts handed to us were all against teams with big, aggressive defensive lines (BYU, Boise State, Wyoming). Even in the games we've won, Bonner spends a lot of time on his back. He is, however, one of the toughest SOBs I've ever seen. He's like the black knight in Montey Python and the Holy Grail. Tompkins is a Junior, but has announced he is leaving for the NFL. He was #1 in FBS in receiving yards this year. He's tiny, 5'8" 155 lbs. He's also really fast and incredibly athletic. We run just enough to keep defenses honest. Calvin Tyler has been good for us, and Elelyon Noa is a very serviceable back. The offense plays out of an extreme spread. Often, the cameras have a hard time getting both wide outs on the screen. We play a fast paced, but not extreme hurry up. Anderson really emphasized conditioning over the summer, so much so that some of the players were a little unhappy. He ran them until they hurled. It's paid off, in that we tend to be a strong 4th quarter team. We've outscored opponents 2-1 in the 4th through the course of the season. We've had several late come from behind wins. Our kids are barely winded when the opponents are grabbing their knees and looking for substitutions.
On defense, we're also undersized. We make up for it with lots of slants, stunts, and blitzes. We tend to do best against teams that have unbalanced offenses. With San Diego State, for example, we were able to sell out on run defense, knowing that they aren't particularly comfortable passing.
Institutionally, Utah State, like Oregon State, is a land grant school. The major with the most students enrolled is mechanical engineering. The strongest majors are probably engineering, physics, chemistry, agriculture, range management, forestry, and food science. Everyone on my Christmas list gets an Aggie Cheese Box! Famous Aggie Ice Cream is consistently voted the best in the state. If you're ever down there, try the Aggie Blue Mint. We have a new school of veterinary medicine, still just the first two years, with the kids finishing their last two at Washington State. One of the crown jewels of campus is the Space Dynamics Laboratory. They design and build custom instrumentation for NASA and the Air Force. Last month, the Air Force Research Laboratory announced a 10 year, $1 billion contract with the Space Dynamics Laboratory.
So, that's us in a nutshell. I would love to see a long term cross conference relationship develop with OSU. I'd love to see us play you home and home every few years.
Go Beavs! Go AGGIES!

I went to USU for our 1998 game there, I think we won 20-16 or something close to that. It was at night, because of some big LDS convention in SLC during the afternoon. It was cold and light snow, it was a very small crowd.
USU has a neat stadium, sort of built into the side of a hill. It has greatly improved its stadium and other facilities since then, thanks in part to work done by former USU AD Scott Barnes. They made a bigger commitment to their FB program to get into the MWC and have done a nice job in that league, which is a perfect fit for them.
Should be a good game. Their QB is about 26 years old, he's older than Justin Herbert or Jake Luton, I think.
Should be a good opponent, with a good fan base. Since they're not in Logan and away from nosy neighbors they'll probably be ready to tailgate.

My Dad and I went to the USU game in 1998. It was cold, but nice. Golfed in Smithfield (I'd have to look at a map).

Aggielarry obviously doesn't know the rules for this board. if you come on here as a visiting fan you need to have an undeserved sense of self importance and talk down to everyone like you are Vince Lombardi. Larry seems like a solid fan that wants to engage in civil football discussions, but hopeful he gets the hang of it. (welcome Larry )
