Was a great game. The delays as crowd poured onto field. Aunties last Broadcast unfortunately his own doing. Did like Him and Bob Blackburn. I also was ok with Parker. Likely the best radio voice at the time. I used to listen to sports talk and He was pretty good.

Darryl Aunies last game. His own doing. Was a great game oft interrupted by fans on field before it ended. I really thought there might be a forfeit with crowd control. Good old Ted Carlson. I really liked Aune and Blackburn whom I heard every summer doing Portland Beaver Baseball. I have grown to like Parker. Where he went to school has nothing to do with his skills. I figure he made a mistake. I listened to him on sport talk radio a lot. Mostly moronic in Portland now.

Still the best game I’ve ever been to, in any sport. I went with a dude who was an exchange student from England and had never seen an American football game before. It was a helluva first game for him to go to. 😎

"It is BEDLAM at Parker Stadium!" Aune's best call, on the last football game he ever broadcast. His description of the final play is perfect. I REALLY miss Darrell. His game calling was entertaining and accurate and he didn't mince words about what he saw and it felt like he captured the drama and momentum on the field. I thought it was a shame the way he got ushered out. I've never been able to warm up to Parker. Partly because he's a phuck but mostly due to his delivery style - way to much pontification. He reminds me of a saner version of Walton. He's probably better at baseball but I don't listen to the baseball games. Maybe Aune shouldn’t have been claiming mileage to Burns and Medford in the same day. He ushered himself out.

Listening to the game and hearing Aune I was reminded how great he was. Great voice, an ability to accurately describe events occurring, I grew up listening to Aune and Jim Howe. I felt it was sad that Darrel didn’t get to call the resurgence over next decade of Beaver football.
I like Mike Parker a lot, classy guy and I feel we are lucky to have him. Hard to follow a legend though.

If you’re inferring that they put the astroturf fabric down directly on the asphalt substrate that would be incorrect - obviously. Even that old astroturf system included a layer of neoprene padding. Whether that neoprene had any resiliency left by the fall of ‘98 is another question. There was zero "resilency" in the padding for several years prior to that season. I broke two fingers and separated 2 ribs from my sternum on that "turf" playing IM flag football. It was rough. I still have scars from all the strawberries and turf rashes from that carpeted concrete. Although that was the 80s...maybe they laid that nice soft cushy neoprene layer down in the 90s....hahahaha

Also, I really liked Bob Grimm (really like Jim Wilson as well); was he with Auny or Parker?

I may be way off base here, but it seems that he padded some expenses because he felt he was shorted on some previous compensation issues. MB.

And as the story goes he had been doing that for years and it was "understood" that was part of the deal. Regardless he is my favorite sport's announcer of all time.
