Replay this week on PAC-12 classics, one of my all- time favorites. Interesting stuff I forgot is Oregon had Chris Peterson as Receivers Coach and Jeff Tedford as OC, that’s a heck of an offensive staff. Watching Coach Riley as a young Head Coach, he was a great selection after so many horrible Head Coach choices at OSU.

I remember that game being commentated both by those two good Fox guys and, separately for replay, amateur hour by Preece and Lynn. All the replays use the Preece and Lynn duo for some reason.
Anyway, epic ending to 2OTs!

"It is BEDLAM at Parker Stadium!" Aune's best call, on the last football game he ever broadcast.
His description of the final play is perfect.

I always thought Aune would say "Touchdown Beavers!" but no, it was just "Touchdown!".
I like the former better than the latter.
I had also forgotten how that old carpet held the moisture so poorly. A friend and I got several hunks of that turf after that game but it finally deteriorated and got thrown out with the trash at our house.

His game calling was entertaining and accurate and he didn't mince words about what he saw and it felt like he captured the drama and momentum on the field. I thought it was a shame the way he got ushered out. I've never been able to warm up to Parker. Partly because he's a phuck but mostly due to his delivery style - way to much pontification. He reminds me of a saner version of Walton. He's probably better at baseball but I don't listen to the baseball games.

Yeah I have a slice of the goalpost mounted on a little stand on my desk here at work to this day. Looking at it right now, makes me smile.

Even that old astroturf system included a layer of neoprene padding. Whether that neoprene had any resiliency left by the fall of ‘98 is another question.

I'm just not a big baseball fan. I would like to go to a game some time but I'm a football fan first, a basketball fan second and will pay attention during significant success in baseball. I've been wanting to go to a game for the last several years and it just hasn't managed to come together. Maybe this year.

I’ve listened to Parker call OSU sports (all 3 sports) for 23 years now and have never once heard him “pontificate” about anything. He may throw in a “big word” every now and again but that’s never bothered me. On the contrary, I think his approach is pretty “down-to-earth”. Just my opinion. I enjoyed Darrell too. I think we’ve been fortunate to have had just 2 lead broadcasters since 1970. That’s a long haul.

For the first decade or so I was all in on Parker. Lately however, I've grown tired of his "get off my lawn" mentality towards one handed catches, opponents showing any emotion whatsoever, etc. I don't know if my tastes have changed or his tone has changed, but I for one will be excited when he moves on and we get a new voice of the Beavers.

There was zero "resilency" in the padding for several years prior to that season. I broke two fingers and separated 2 ribs from my sternum on that "turf" playing IM flag football. It was rough.

Holy jumpin up and down Martha! As far as broadcasters go, Bob Blackburn did a great job as the beavers announcer. Also listened to him doing Portland Beavers and Buckaroo hockey games. Guess I'm showing my age.
