Had NO IDEA Lehigh had such a powerful wrestling program ! Scappoosian and two time OSU NCAA champion head coach Greg Strobel had a lot to do with that. Doesn't hurt that it's in Pennsylvania.

Looks like the back-ups will be heading over to La Grande this weekend for a tournament hosted by EOU. Have about 10 kids entered so far per Trackwrestling. Kind of bummed, little Ocho hung up the wrestling shoes, so no tourneys for me this year, otherwise there's a good chance I would have been there.

Good for little ocho. I hope he had a good ride. I remember you posting when he first went into the wrestling room and was getting schooled by jv guys. I think my son was 11 the last year he did youth wrestling but I remember living and dying with him when he was on the mat.

I think my son was 11 the last year he did youth wrestling but I remember living and dying with him when he was on the mat. Hey thanks man. Yeah it's been a journey - from taking a beating as a HS freshman, to falling in love with the sport and becoming obsessed with getting better. Then first wrestling at a JC - then a big injury and was told by a doctor he should never wrestle again. He didn't care for that answer, so ~2 years of rehab, walked on at SOU in 2019, worked his way up the depth chart and made it the entire season injury free and even got a few spot starts in plus wrestled in all the local tournaments. That was really the pinnacle for him, just proving to himself he could do it. Coaching change at SOU + COVID took the wind out of his sails, so he opted out last year - good move as SOU didn't participate at all and just voted to send 2 kids off to Nationals. He made a lot of great friends along the way though. It's definitely a big family. He should be finished up with school this fall and will have a degree. That alone is amazing for a kid who absolutely hates school and was really just majoring in wrestling/girls/parties all along.

The last paragraph says a lot about almost all of the wrestlers I have known. Hate school. Yep. But stick with wrestling, figure out school is a path forward, and are successful outside of wrestling.
