I don't know about you, but I thought that was a great media day interview... one of the best I've seen. The comments relating to our new players, if not just "coach speak", make me much more excited for the upcoming season. I had never heard the Coach describe Greta as a combination of Pivec and TUDOR before. Yes, I've heard the Pivec comparison, but including Tudor because of Greta's catch-and-shoot ability is really good to hear. Also, the comment that AJ would make up for the loss of Sasha Goforth was good to hear. In particular the coach seemed to be high on her ability to pull up and shoot. Both Greta's catch-and-shoot and AJ's pull-ups can help our offense a lot against the kind of teams we've struggled against (quicker guards). Again, the coach was raving about the transformation of Jelena, talking about her being quicker and having 'guard-like skills' (just her passing, or more than that?). That first game can't come quick enough for me!

I am sure AJ is great, but am going to wait and see with regarding to making up for the loss of Sasha. She was a significant factor last year on both ends, so will be interesting to see if AJ is on par with Sasha. Not sure I have seen that level in film clips. I expect Greta to start. Big shoes to fill with the Pivec comparison, especially as it relates to her ability to rebound. If she can shoot to anywhere near the level of Wiesner, Goodman, or Tudor that will be good. Again, big shoes. This roster is deep and both will be given plenty of opportunity (and time) to grow into their roles. And I think Jelena is going to be a significant factor this year. She will play as many minutes as her conditioning allows.

Because of the tendency for coaches to over-state the abilities of some players in pre-season, we do need to see her on the floor against Pac-12 competition to be sure. I guess this interview just enthused me more because of the description he gave of her, which gave the impression that she is as athletic as Sasha, but also suggested that her offensive skills were very good AND her defense. The other players who have commented on AJ have also suggested that she was very athletic. AJ said one of her attributes was being very coachable and Rueck had said that in a past interview, adding that when she is taught something in practice, you see the change right away. A lot of very good signs.

I don't have a problem with the way ASU plays on the court, but I do have a problem with how the refs call their play.

I see Adia Barnes teaching more of a punch them in the mouth mentality than CTT
