Jdogge and I disagree on some issues, but she was absolutely being sarcastic. Now, if her poll had been on the 3-4 defense, we could have quite the debate. "She?" Yes, I was being sarcastic in response to what appears to be a leak in the Dam. It begins with expectations that a USC upset might really lead to a bowl game this year. Then some posters get drunk over the defeat of UW. Then comes falling back to earth followed by comments that he was "outcoached." If it worked, he'd be a genius. It didn't, so he was "outcoached." You know, three weeks ago, Nolan was the second coming of Christ. Now we have posters suggesting that maybe Gebbia might be the answer after Nolan was the answer, after Noyer was the answer. Boys, after pre-season predictions of another bad year, this team has a shot a bowling. 5-7 will be an improvement. 6-6 would be stellar. Better than that, we win some recruiting battles. I'll be happy with 5-7.

This is stupid. We are 4-2. Never underestimate the stupidity of the fan base. This time last year it was "Fire Tinkle!" For some it still is fire Tinkle. LOL

What does the results of this poll so far tell us? What is the meaning of this poll? Could someone do a poll on this?

Perhaps we'll hear it when someone plays Destiny 2.

I think it's ok to suggest that he may not be the answer at this point. In fact, the coaches have to be wondering this......It's all about putting the guy in there who has the best shot at winning a game, right? Nolan has looked like a deer in the headlights. He has not looked like a guy who instills confidence in the huddle......Gebbia may get his shot before too long.

It's improvement that is winning us a couple of recruits that, normally, wouldn't get us a look. Better than 5-7 and I'll be very pleased.

The most "looked like a deer in the headlights" look from any QB I've seen at OSU since I started watching in '76 that I can recall was Matt Moore in that game he threw 6 ints 8 games into his first season as a starter here, his third season overall starting games at the Power 5 level.... he turned out all right. I'm not sweating it yet.

if Smith were the HC at a school that expects to win their conference championships he would be on the hot seat for not having competitive Defense.
But he is at Oregon State and most fans won't hold him to that kind of standard and I think are willing to just have mediocre success if they having a winning season every 4 years.
I think it is pathetic but football isn't a religion here like other places

My memories of Marcus here was mostly seeing him being put in the game in bad situations. He killed it in spring and fall scrimmages that I watched. Best overall arm on the team, even the fall Luton came in - and that's not a knock on Luton, I thought he was good but needed time in the system. Andersen didn't give him a chance, probably because he was a Riley recruit. Andersen ran off pretty much every Riley QB but McMaryion, probably because McMaryion was a legit 2 way threat. I'll admit that I saw TWO plays where Nolan looked rattled. One was after a change of possession and he was looking around in the backfield huddle, then the camera switched to Coach Smith and he looked a little "out of sorts" or put out, then called a time out. The other was a bit later. I'd still call it a matter of inexperience that most new QBs have episodes with on occasion. I think he's doing just fine.

If CJS were the HC at a college in position to win the conference—let’s say UW just for fun—the quality of the athlete he’d be bringing in would be stronger. The defense would be more competitive with better athletes. Simple. Here, you’ve got a choice. You’re going to have to either trust the HC and keep him around as long as the team is progressing, recognizing that nothing is going change over night. Or you can fire him, and then hire someone new whom you’ll end up firing in a couple of years, too. Rinse and repeat.

I think it is pathetic but football isn't a religion here like other places Well even here I find it tough to believe that OSU fans would accept a 5-7 season after a 4-1 start?! That's mind boggling acceptance of mediocrity. The quality of athlete is only a part of the issue. WSU certainly doesn't outclass OSU in that category. HC are paid to make tough decisions. And the most important aren't going for 4th downs. They are who do they entrust to run their "teams"... offense, defense, special teams. And, do they hold them accountable. If the blame is going to consistently be laid on the level of talent a couple logical queries follow: Why is the offense successful and improving? Staff can only recruit offense? If the staff can't recruit defense hadn't you better find one that can? If you lack talent on the DL why not play a 4-3 to keep OL occupied and create better blitz gaps? You can be a walk on and create havoc, take up space, make a pile. Use all the DL bodies you have. Could it get any worse? The issue is Tibs and has been from day 1.

I'd like to see him be more decisive and maybe use his legs a bit more
