Maybe after 6 years you could learn how to embed a picture? I keep asking you, the guru of tech and the board, how to do that from a phone. Will gladly comply!

Of your list, you are correct as to Oregon and Nevada. South Dakota celebrates Native American Day. Arizona and Maine celebrate it as both Columbus Day and Indigenous Peoples' Day. Hawai'i celebrates Discovery Day. West Virginia celebrates Columbus Day. Some portions of California, Florida, North Dakota, Texas and Washington celebrate Indigenous Peoples' Day but other parts celebrate Columbus Day. So, maybe in Nevada and Oregon? So you don't recognize the Federal government? www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/presidential-actions/2021/10/08/a-proclamation-indigenous-peoples-day-2021/Do you? The Federal Holiday is Columbus Day. Joe Biden declared, by executive order, that October 11, 2021 is also Indigenous Peoples' Day. The President's proclamation is, of course, not binding and in no way trumps or supercedes 5 U.S.C. §6103(a), wherein Columbus Day is designated as a legal federal public holiday in the United States Code.

Tomorrow is traditional Colombus Day, Oct 12. Do the Italian communities of New York City and San Francisco still have parades? Maybe there should be a Viking Day since they pre-dated Chris by a few hundred years. Leif Erikson Day is October 9, 2021. In 2023, Leif Erickson Day and Columbus Day (Observed) will be on the same day, whereas actual Columbus Day will continue to be on the 12th. Of course, Leif Erikson Day is not even really about Leif Erikson and, instead, is a celebration of the first boatload of Norwegian immigrants to arrive in the United States of America on October 9, 1825. California, Colorado, Illinois, Minnesota, South Dakota, Washington and Wisconsin each recognizes Leif Erikson Day, as does Saskatchewan. Additionally, the United States President observes the holiday through an annual proclamation.

It’s kinda too bad that Indigenous Peoples Day is a reaction to Columbus Day. I get the reasoning behind it, but Indigenous Peoples deserve more than a crappy day in October. Their lives and cultures were (and are) so rich that their story deserves more than Columbus ever got. I’d say that they need a month, but you know, Black History Month and Hispanic Heritage Month haven’t done much to improve their situations in the US.

I liked how the basketball team used to wear turquoise during November to highlight the month. I would like to see more of that. It would be great, if the football team could do something like that, as well. I would say that their situations have improved. But I do not know how much you could link it to the months. I hate how the whole Columbus Day/Indigenous Peoples Day is a zero sum game. I hate how it seems like it always has to be comparative. The story of Columbus is rich and interesting, just as the story of Native Americans is rich and interesting. History is all very complex and interesting. Everything should be studied.

It’s weird, like making Adolf Hitlers birthday National Jewish appreciation day. Make the first day of spring Indigenous People’s Day. March could use a holiday, and spring is always a renewal of hope.

It makes much more sense to add a new holiday than the zero sum push to eliminate Columbus Day. This is especially true, because Columbus Day is a celebration of Italians (specifically and Catholics generally) contributions to the United States and the persecution that Catholics endured over the past couple centuries.
