If Andrea can practice, then that more than likely means she can also play. Because of the drastic changes that I will felt will ruin college athletics I had considered not following college sports at all. However, having waited so long to see Andrea play I can't quit now. I guess I will make Oregon St an exception and continue to follow them. Sorry guys! you might have to put up with my posts a bit longer but at a much reduced rate.

IDK, I was under the impression she has been coming to every practice all along during her enrollment, but just doing mild to moderate activities and avoiding the intense parts. Of course I could be wrong too.

I've been waiting and hoping Andrea could play too, but there was an interview this Summer with CSR that seemed to indicate that she won't ever get to. Of course, I can't remember where that was - definitely hope I'm wrong. OSU doesn't want another EJK to happen (Ernest J. Killum) - and that one still hurts.

At this stage I'm much more hopeful that Andrea gets a college degree that is able to lift her and her family from poverty.

Taking part in scrimmages is not unlike playing in games. Cal carried a player for four years but she never suited up and never played. Andrea, while never actually playing did suit up- at least in sweats. Well we will not know till or if it happens but just by her taking part in scrimmages seems to make this season different from all the rest.

All I can glean from that video is that Kennedy can't guard Jelena, Jelena can't guard Kennedy, Codding can't guard Talia, Codding can't guard Greta, and Greta can't guard AJ. And with Greta we have another guard who can put the ball on the ground and drive to the bucket. And given the dearth of evidence, no conclusions of any kind or confidence can really be drawn from this video. It was Andrea, not Jelena guarding Kennedy. Hopefully that means Jelena can guard kennedy! No it was Jelena guarding Kennedy. Jelena is # 12 and Andrea is #2. Jelena also wears black knee pads and Andrea doesn't. It had me fooled as well. Of course this changes the perspective that Andrea was taking part in scrimmages and nulifies my reason for thinking Andrea might play this season. Is it my imagination or does it seem like jelena has dropped weight? That might be a good thing.

But yes, she and Jelena were guarding each other throughout the scrimmage. At last I heard, Taylor had not yet been cleared for full contact since her shoulder surgery and likelly would not have been until mid-October.

Both appear to have lost a significant amount of weight

A few comments and observations from here and there.....
1. I didn't know Taylor underwent shoulder surgery. Her shoulder has obviously been bothering her for a while. Guessing it was rotor cuff surgery....but I suppose we will be in the dark about that...
2. Jelena losing a few pounds and gaining some additional muscle can only be seen as a good thing - in my view of things....She lost her balance a lot last season, and got knocked off her feet way too frequently, creating too many falls to the floor for a big woman.
3. Talia losing weight is a different matter and I'm really curious how it will affect her offensive game. Coach seemed pleased when he talked about Talia having "re-shaped her body" - so I'll take his word for it that it's a good thing...But, truthfully, she used her weight and her width to great advantage in her offensive game. Fortunately, of all the players on this team she has the best horizontal arm extension when releasing near the basket. (Taylor, obviously, has the best vertical extension.)
4. I'm not sure, but to my knowledge Andrea has never participated in scrimmages (full court practice games) but only in drills.....If someone knows otherwise, help me out.
5. The biggest thing to look for with Jelena's game is whether she has learned to shoot with the ball over her head. Not as masterfully as Taylor - but certainly quite a bit better than what she has thus far shown at OSU...If she can learn to elevate the ball on her release - at 6'9" she would be an impressive inside force.... GO BEAVS!!

GO BEAVS!! Talia as we all know joined OSU directly out of HS (like two weeks IIRC). She has probably worked out harder and gotten better nutritional guidance since joining the team. Any apparent weight loss is probably a simple outcome of that. She may not even weigh much less if she gained muscle mass.

There ia a huge difference between high school and the type of programs run by upper level teams like Oregon St. The very fact that Talia was able to come in an compete as well as she did speaks well for her continued development and remaining upside. She would certainly get better in respect to developing herself physically and improvement with experience against better competition. What usually can not be improved very much is a persons BBIQ and we could see that she has that in spades.
