How to score a run - the possibilities are plentiful. A well executed sacrifice, taking an extra base, a key base hit, a timely base on balls, a stolen base, ad. infinitum.
How to prevent a run - same idea. A great defensive play, a critical strike out, getting a hard hit ground ball in a DP situation, etc.
How do the Beavers generate that additional run or how can they prevent an additional run against them? Where and how much improvement is needed to accomplish that in 2022? Obviously, both present a pathway to improvemrent in the W-L column in '22
In 2021, the Beavs finished 37-24. An interesting stat - 49.2% of their scheduled 61 games were decided by 2 runs or less. The Beavers played 17 games decided by a single run and OSU won 8 of those. Nine 1-run losses speaks to opportunity. The Beavers played 13 games decided by 2 runs and won 9 of those.
You might conclude, as did D-1 Baseball and Baseball America - "the Beavers were a team built to play close games". Usually that analysis is predicated on "lots of pitching, not much hitting". They were correct, OSU played "close" in 30 of their 61 game season.
The challenge and opportunity are there for 2022. So, how do the Beavs answer the question?

Keep Jacob Melton healthy. I was reading OP and was thinking this exact post! Killed our offense when he went down

You nailed it. This is the weakness of the past few Beaver teams.
The solution cannot be one guy because one guy can get hurt a la Melton or one guy may not make a plate appearance in time to save the game. Whatever the answer is, it has to be throughout the lineup, so you’re probably looking at coaching or mental prep or team building and such. It’s a team game. The answer has to be there, not with a single individual.
But spark plugs like Melton or Kwan should be part of the formula for a winning team in my opinion.

I AGREE on needing a spark plug ( like Kwan), this could be Meckler Then we need another base hit machine that can move the runner up by bunting, or going opposite field ( someone who does not routinely GIDP. Then start with the power bats 3- 6. Then 7-9 should all be base fillers, bunters and line drive xbh guys ! Absolutely, need to remove the high percentage of guys striking out ‘looking’ ! I think we have a great group of guys to choose from and cannot wait for the season to start !
