Sub headline: Adley Rutschman living up to No. 1 pick billing. Go Adley, Go Beavers ! He hit .283/.397/.514 with 23 home runs and nearly as many walks (76) as strikeouts (83) across Double- and Triple-A. Hope some team will give up something and get him moved to a successful organization

Someone should tell the Orioles how good he is. They know. They are too busy tanking to care right now.

For those who know baseball terminology a lot better than I do, could you please explain the meaning and relevance of this passage from the blurb on Rutschman? Thank you in advance:
"Rutschman will play in the majors next season, albeit likely not until after the Orioles have suppressed his service time to their liking. Still, the No. 1 pick in the 2019 draft remains on track to become a star."

I think the writer is guessing that AR will be in the minor leagues again next year until the middle of July or so. That way the O's control another year. I hope he's wrong. It would be a travesty.

They can bring him up earlier than that and still keep the extra year of control. Hopefully, he’s up by May of next year.

If they keep him down at all next year there will be considerable blowback from what few fans they have left.

Still, the No. 1 pick in the 2019 draft remains on track to become a star." The writer is assuming the Orioles will use the CBA in order to delay Adley's free agency until the 2029 season. If he's on the opening day roster, he'll be a free agent after the 2027 season, if they wait until about the middle of April, he'll be a free agent after the 2028 season (see Kris Bryant for the most obvious example of this). If they wait until the "super 2" date passes (usually sometime in mid-late June - it's a moving target), they can pay him the MLB minimum for 3 seasons, if they bring him up before "super 2" date, they can only pay him MLB minimum for 2 seasons. What isn't discussed here is that the CBA is up for re-negotiation this off-season. There's a real possibility of a player's strike before next year, and also the possibility that the rules that the Cubs used to their advantage on Kris Bryant may not be exactly the same if the CBA is successfully extended and or re-negotiated in time for the 2022 season to start as usual.

And that's a big reason why Kris Bryant will play his prime seasons with the Giants, not the Cubs.
Good organizations don't treat their top talent like s*** just to save a few bucks.

Baltimore and the Arizona Diamondbacks finished with the worst records in MLB this season. Each team was 52-110 and Baltimore will pick first in the 2022 draft, if they have a draft in view of the upcoming labor negotiations and possible strike.
