The writer for S.I. was a UO grad...no lie. Last name of Moore. Kenny Moore wrote that article? It makes more sense now. I got to meet him sometime in the 90's. Good guy - I think he went to North Eugene HS. Moore was already a contributing writer for SI by 1974. They would have not preassigned a writer to cover that UCLA road trip since 18-1, #1 UCLA’s wins in the Willamette Valley were considered a near certainty. They had killed üø and OSU the previous weekend in Pauley. In ‘74 the weekend games were played on Friday and Saturday, so when the Beavers (9-10) upset the Bruins on Friday it was big news (even pre-ESPN) and SI quite logically called up their (probably their only) contributing writer in Oregon to cover the game the following night in Eugene and write the story. When the *ucks (11-9) repeated the Beavs’ upset, it became a big enough story to rate as their cover. Moore’s story was pretty uo-centric but didn’t entirely exclude the Beavers half of the upset. Just kind of the way things worked those days. I don’t hold any grudge against Moore. He was also a great runner who finished 4th in the ‘72 Olympics marathon.

Geez, Louise! You boys are merciless with JW because she left, but give Destiny and Sasha -- who were much bigger contributors -- passes. Be consistent. Are we being “merciless”? I don’t think so. I wished him good luck. PS You’re the one calling him a “she”. Typos. Go figure. Yes, some are being merciless.
