Hello beavers, I’ve read the previews but it’s never better than getting the scoop from opposing fans. Everything is reading like you have an experienced team coming back except for DT and safety and that although you lost Jefferson you have plenty of speed at the skill positions. Sounds like your coaches are intent with going with gebbia from one source I read, but many others think it will be the Colorado transfer
As for us..
Offense > no established QB that’s replaced David Blough in the two seasons since his departure.. plummer is too slow through reads. O’Connell is just slow.. I think it will be O’Connell.. who would be a dangerous player if he ran a 4.9.. he does not > at RB Horvath to me is not that talented but he’s picked up yards seemingly because DCs seem intent to let him get his as they widen out in coverage on the rest of skill players. King doerue has more athleticism but injuries derailed 2020 and he hadn’t proven much in 2019 as a freshman > the skill players are very good. David bell is one of the best receivers in America. Milton Wright is not as polished but bigger and faster (than bell) he’s still dangerous. Payne Durham is a physical tight end who also excels as a receiver .. there isn’t an established replacement for rondale moore. Jackson anthrop is a 5th year who hasn’t done much since he starred the season before more. TJ Sheffield is far more athletic but hasn’t proven to be a fluid receiver yet. Bell is the most technically sound receiver I can recall ever seeing in the big ten. Expect the offense to flow through him. > the OL isn’t proven but they appear to have 8 guys who can play. It’s a patchwork of transfers and talented guys like Hartwig and Craig who haven’t established themselves as mainstays yet. They should be alright if there are no injuries
Defense > whew.. bob Diaco was a terrible hire and although Purdue has hired a good coach in brad lambert, you guys will be his first opponent as DC. Expect a 4-2-5/4-3 look with a hybrid WDE/LB. very little is established as Diaco ran a 3-4.. a terrible decision for schools like Purdue. Very little is established on this defense though players have been on campus for a few now. > on the DL it’s SSDE George karlaftis.. a former 5 star who had offers from Clemson and Alabama and has made good. He had covid last year but had 7.5 sacks and 17.5 TFL as a freshman. And .. that’s about it. NT Lawrence Johnson and 3 tech Branson deen have played for a couple years.. but at best they’ve looked not bad at times. Demarcus Mitchell is an explosive athlete at the other DE spot but he was standing up last year. No one else has proven much. If you see Jack Sullivan .. it means we didn’t develop any depth and your QB will have time > At linebacker there’s jaylan Alexander and then.. not much. Alexander is like deen and Johnson. He’s looked not bad at times. Auburn transfer OC brothers apparently looks great and will start but he hasn’t played a down for Purdue. Jalen Graham is a converted safety who in three years still doesn’t even cover great close to the line. Khali Saunders is a RSo I have high hopes for but he hasn’t played much. Then there is true freshman yanni karlaftis who will be a stud like his brother but might not even be healthy by then. If you see semisi fakasiieki or Kieran Douglas in there, we are in trouble. Expect to see receivers open at the second level of that is the case. > In the secondary we have two very talented established players in CB Cory trice and free safety cam Allen. Nothing else is established. Marvin grant is an Ultra talented big hitter at SS but he’s been hurt quickly in both of his seasons in west Lafayette.. dedrick Mackey at corner is not terrible but not particularly good either. We have some plans besides him but nothing that seems like it might overtake him.
So that’s us. My hope for a win is that it looks like you’re small up front and don’t get to our slow as molasses QB very quickly .. my worry for a loss is that I’ll believe we have a fully functional division one defense when I see it. We have car parts… no evidence that we have a car.
I don’t know enough to be ready to predict yet

I'm hanging with fam so I'll give you a quickie...
We have a really good coaching staff led by former Beaver great Jonathan Smith. He's been building the program from the ashes of the dumpster fire that he who shall not be named left it in...
RB, WR, and TR we are deep and talented.
O line is experienced, and our center Eldridge is on the Rimington list.
Gebbia should be the QB starter opening day if he's 💯....he suffered a hamstring tear on a play against the quacks...a play that shouldn't have even happened cuz we scored the previous play.....he's a good football player...chance nolan is prolly #2...fast, athletic, not much experience at this level.
We are stacked at LB and our secondary could be sneaky good....some good athletes.....D line is our Achilles heal....not a lot of depth and whiffed on some recruits.
Big picture, our coaching staff has been in place for several years, and our team is resilient.....see Colorado game '18 or the civil war last season. I have orange colored glasses, but I think we make a bowl game this season if we get good QB play.

Strongest part of the team will probably be the O-Line. In a two TE set we return seven starters. Two were all pac 12 performers last year. We ran the ball on every team we played and our first two backs averaged well over 5 yards per rush.
If we establish the rush our play action passing game becomes very effective.
I'm looking forward to seeing our D vs Purdues offense. That will tell us a lot about how our season will go.

I’m sort of the most realistic poster on the Purdue site. I predicted 5-7 and then 3-5 the last two years and get screamed at by people who predict 8-4 every year. Thanks for the picture. I think we are a 5-7 team IF we beat you guys.. and that seems to be the prediction. I’m leaning toward a win where maybe we are up 4 late and you guys stall only cause it’s at home but just like I wouldn’t be shocked if we were 2-10 OR 10-2 I wouldn’t be shocked if you guys win by 17. Too much variance on our team. Lots of recruited talent and lots of good reasons that the the last two years have gone up in smoke on brohm (when you lose your starting QB AND rondale moore on the same play yeah it’s a valid reason). Right now, here’s what’s established as quality big ten starters… RB Horvath WR Bell WR Wright TE Durham DE Karlaftis CB Trice FS Allen That’s it. We have potential great and good answers at all the other positions, but my feeling is.. when you have 17 questions (including P and K) .. even with more than 17 potential answers even the best coaches don’t answer all those questions. So im fully expecting 3-4 guys that opposing coaches can attack. If that’s the case on opening night you guys win something like 37-17. If you see Jack Sullivan, semisi fakasiieki and Sam garvin all playing starters reps.. start high fiving fellow beaver fans. If you see none of those guys and you see king doerue busting out and new DC brad lambert being lauded by the announcers for a quick turn around… “duck” lol No outcome would surprise me

If you guys lose you could be looking at similar according to the boom goes the dynamite kid 😂😂

When I lived a block away I never saw you or Shawn kemp there Interestingly enough.. triple X was like McDonald’s before McDonald’s.. they all carried xxx root beer but they varied in menu. The only remaining one outside of west Lafayette is in Washington state .. By the way if I’m ever in Corvallis what’s the local eatery that newcomers must try. I think the Beavs are going to surprise a lot of people this year.
Offense: QB they have 3 experienced QBs that they can win games with. I would guess the starter will be either Gebbia or the Colorado transfer Noyer. Gebbia is a former 4 star recruit that transferred from Nebraska. Smart QB with an average arm and is quick enough to scamper for a few yards if needed. Noyer is a big QB that has a bigger arm and can run a bit better. If he can pick up the offense I would guess he starts. There is also Nolan but I doubt he wins the starting job. He's not as accurate and as good of decision maker but is the best runner of the 3.
RB: This has been one of the best positions recruited by this staff and it's very deep. Baylor is the most experienced but he's always played 2and fiddle to Jefferson and has never gotten to prove if he can be the #1 back. Fenwick is a big physical back that transferred from SC. He also is a very good receiver. Behind them they have former 4 star recruit and transfer from Washington who is more of a speed/scat back. There is Madison and Newell that are young big backs but we haven't really seen them play much. And then there is true freshman Collins who was a 4 star recruit and #3 APB in the nation. It will be interesting to see how they utilize the stable as they no longer have the proven work horse and the RB coach is new but I would guess Fenwick and Baylor will get the majority of the Carrie's.
TE: Both guys are very good and can cause mismatches. Quitoriano is the bigger of the 2 and the better blocker and is almost like another lineman but is also a very capable receiver. Musgrave is the better athlete and receiver but he's had a problem with drops in the past but I expect that he's past that as he's more experienced now. Next is Overman who is balanced but was a pretty big time recruit.
WR: This position has the Highest rated talent on the team and a lot of potential. Beason was a true freshman last year and was very productive. He doesn't have any elite skill but is a good all around receiver. Bradford is a very reliable 6th year senior. Harrison is an FSU transfer and was only allowed to play in 2 games last year but lead the team in receptions in both including the longest pass play of the season. Looks like he could become the go to guy and be dominant. There is champ that's 5"5 he's quick but I don't see him getting much playing time with the new talent on the team. There are 3 other big time transfers in Tongue (Georgia), Dunmore (Penn state), and Lindsay (Nebraska). Lindsay was a former 5 star recruit and big play threat but has had a problem with drops in the past. The other 2 it will be their first season and their playing time will depend on how quickly they pick up the playbook and if they're as good as their recruit rankings.
OL: This is the strength of the team as they return all 5 starters. The best is 6th year senior Eldridge who was 1st team all league and on the Rimington watch list. They're very good and why I think this team could be dominant on offense. There is decent depth behind them as well.
Defense:
DL: The starters should be Hodgins at DE who has started for 4 years and is solid and a team leader. Sandberg is from Sweden who has only been playing football for a few years so I expect him to take a big step this year at DE. At DT I expect Minnesota transfer Schad to start. He's a 300lber and should solidify the line where they were missing a solid 300lber to play NT. Behind them they have pretty good depth at DE but not so much at DT. The next DT is Skelton who is serviceable but is a former walk on and is not going to scare anyone. Next they have Sio who just switched from OL and is 360lbs. Its yet to be seen how he'll adjust and how much he plays. The problem with DL has always been having the big 300 plus guys to play DT in the 3-4.
LB: OSU probably has the best LB corps in the league and one of the best in the nation. Roberts and Speights are the ILBs and tackling machines. Robert's is probably the best defensive player and had 21 tackles in a game last season. OLB is responsible for providing a lot of the pressure in this D but last year they really struggled to do that. They are very deep at this position but I'm not too sure who will start. Gumbs is a former Oklahoma transfer and highest rated but he hasn't played hardly because of injuries but he transferred here to play in this system which who could thrive in of he stays healthy. Other names to watch for and will see the field is Huges-Murray a 6th year senior and large LB, Sharpe, Mccartan. All very serviceable.
DB: They lost 2 starting CBs to the draft but have the guys to replace them. I expect the starters to be Wright and Kansas tranfer Jones. Wrights brother just went to the NFL but this 1 is supposed to be even better and could become a shutdown corner. Jones was a starter at Kansas and should be solid. Austin and Forrest are next and they have both started several games and are solid. At safety the best player is Grant but he also plays nickel so another guy will often have to replace him in those cases. Safety might be the most unsure position on the team. Julian is probably the best in coverage. Arnold and Oladapo are probably the other guys but they are better tacklers than they are in coverage and Oladapo is a former walk on to show you how they haven't managed to find a solid starter recruiting.
They should have solid special teams as they've finally found a solid kicker. They have struggled in punt and kickoff coverage at times tho.
I really think they will and should win this game. This team has really been close to becoming a winning team but just hasn't quite managed to win some close games and get out of their own way. I think that changes this year. I think the OL will allow the offense to control the ball and wear teams down and keep the Defense off the team who is the weak link. I wish we had a tune up game before as coach Smith's teams tend to improve as the season goes on.
42-31 Beavs!

I have a question because this reads like a lot of Purdue fans who shade everything In the most favorable light. Where are you weak? Because I can sit here and say that Purdue has this recruit and that recruit at DT. But at the end of the day, the only two players who have actually demonstrated anything are low level three stars who have demonstrated that at times they don’t suck. There’s karlaftis, who will almost look comical relative to the rest of the team because he really could threaten to start at Clemson and Alabama, but with everything else I’m just wishing. Example. You run a 3-4. To not get run on by Zander Horvath, yeah you can be Wisconsin and just plug the line with big guys and linebackers with speed and physicality. But a 3-4 DT needs to be dominant. A lot better than Lorenzo MEAL was for us last year under Diaco. And I’d call it the same way if your roster was wearing gold and black. Like I said, we have 17 positions that have some level of questions at the big ten level. To some Purdue fans, that number is 0 lol. By the way your final score wouldn’t surprise me at all. I only lean toward the small margin that’s predicted for Purdue because many feel a lot will come together at once and it’s a long travel road game in week. If I had to pick my second most likely outcome it’s a blowout loss. So are there between 0-x positions where you have hopes, but there are questions. Here’s what I mean by that. At slot, Jackson anthrop starred the year before rondale came in. But he hasn’t played much since due to rondale and injuries .. tj Sheffield was highly recruited, but he’s going into his second year and he hasn’t actually done it at this level despite the talent being there. So.. to many Purdue fans that position is a gimme .. “we are fine.” To me, until someone proves it, it’s a question
