My starters weren't the batting order...I would never put Melton down in the order. Hoping we find a great leadoff hitter so Melton can hitting third.

My starters would be far different. 3b Dukart Ss Dernedde 2b Bazzana 1b Forrester OF Reed OF Melton OF Meckler C. Smith P Pfennings P Frisch P Hjerpe I don't see Clauch,Verberg or Casey back in 2022. Jmo I like the lineup.....couple tweeks for mine.....I'll put Dukart at SS, Gretler at 3rd, Dernedde at 2nd, and Weber at C, Boyd either DH or OF Claunch would be in there if he's back.....Casey would be on the pine if he's back.

For me,it would be hard to keep Bazzana out of the line-up...he may be our starting 2b or atleast DH. Hitting .400 for the Corvallis knights says a lot to me.

I guess I would typically give returning guys the nod based on experience at this level......but I'm all for standout incoming guys busting into the lineup! If a few kids like Bazzana, Reed, and one of our high ranked incoming catchers could be legit contributors out of the gate, we could have a pretty scary lineup

Watched Bazzana last night, have seen him 5 games so far - you are not going to keep him off the field. Not only does he command the strike zone and goes oppo really well, he has speed to burn and plays a very nice 2nd base. This kid is a 4.5 tool guy, not sure about his power, but it is wood bat league.

Logan Lotti hit .400 for the Knights one summer and never really saw the field as a Beaver.... Just saying. Lotti could not hit D-1 righties and was not much better against D-1 lefties. Lotti started every single game against lefties through the end of April and was one of the first pinch hitters off the bench against lefties, as well. Lotti played in 25 of the first 36 games with 14 starts. But he only was able to hit .146 against D-1 pitching. Rob Folsom, who was on the 2005 College World Series team but had missed two years (and was still somehow only a Junior?), basically took over Lotti's spot. Lotti picked up a mid-week start against Gonzaga on May 12 and struck out twice and committed an error in four innings of work before being pulled in favor of the speedster, Kyle Beverley. Lotti was basically the 24th man on the 25-man Fort Worth Regional roster. In the first loss to TCU, Lotti was out #25 and Beverley was out #26. Beverley was a defensive replacement in the win against Texas A&M and the loss against TCU, which ended the season, but did not have a plate appearance after the Gonzaga game. Both Beverley and Lotti would transfer out after the season.

Bazzana is killing it tonight, triple to the right-center gap, double to center. He showed another gear on his triple. Now hitting .425.

More info on Bazzana's game tonight. Future Oregon State second baseman Travis Bazzana (pictured, above) tripled, doubled, singled, scored three times and drove in a run to lead a 10-hit attack. He raised his WCL-leading average to .426.
He also stretched his WCL hitting streak to nine games in a row, with eight consecutive multi-hit games. Bazzana is hitting .537 (22-41) during that span.
“I just been a roll a little bit lately, just feeling confident in the [batter’s] box,” he said. “I felt good before the game and once I’m on base, the guys do a really good job of scoring me.”corvallisknights.com/bazzana-ross-bullpen-team-up-to-top-pickles-in-series-opener/

My point was that they were extremely high on Lotti and he did not pan out. Knights vs. PAC-12 play is a lot different. I hope this kid pans out! Just not getting my hopes up yet.
