UCLA has assembled one of the nation’s top recruiting classes. It’s fair to say that has become a common occurrence recently for the Bruins, Gators and Commodores. UCLA primarily recruits in southern California, an area with a large population, a surplus of high school talent and wall to wall professional scouts. SoCal preps are frequently seen by MLB Scouts and are heavily exposed. This year, the Bruins tapped national powerhouse, J.Serra Catholic HS for four athletes, all of whom could be drafted by the beginning of the 6th round on the second day of the draft. This years UCLA class has as many as 8 draft prospects that if drafted, could decimate the class if only half of them signed.
RHP THATCHER HURD 6-4, 205 MANHATTAN BEACH, CA.-MIRA COSTA HS Hurd is the highest ranked Bruin recruit and is expected to be taken late in the second or early in the third round. Reports say he is torn – pro or college.
RHP ERIC SILVA 6’-180 SAN CLEMENTE, CA.-JUNIPERO SERRA HS Silva projects 5th round or lower. May be leaning towards signing.
RHP LUKE JEWETT 6-1, 190 SAN CLEMENTE, CA.-JUNIPERO SERRA HS Another 5th-6th round prospect. Has been silent about his leanings.
RHP ALONZO TREADWELL 6-7, 235 SANTA ANA, CA.-MATER DEI HS Scouts like his tools at 1B. Possible mid draft selection.
RHP JOSHUA ALGER 6-3, 170 ROSEVILLE, CA. HS
RHP JAMES HEPP 6-7, 195 WEST RANCH, CA. HS
LHP GAGE JUMP 5-11, 175 SAN CLEMENTE,CA.-JUNIPERO SERRA HS Highly ranked and a high risk recruit for the Bruins. Wants a pro career.
LHP ETHAN FLANAGAN 6-3, 195 RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, CA.-RSM CATHOLIC HS
C JACK HOLMAN 6-4, 210 RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA.-ETIWANDA HS
C AIDEN BERGER 5-11, 185 PALO ALTO, CA. HS
SS CODY SHRIER 6-4, 195 SAN CLEMENTE, CA.-JUNIPERO SERRA HS Highly ranked. Could sign if the offer is right. UCLa’s 3rd best recruit.
3B BRYCE MARTIN-GRUDZIELANEK 6-2, 170 TOREY PINES, CA. HS Trending up and fast. One to watch about mid draft.
SS ALEX FERNANDES 5-10, 150 SAN MARCOS, CA. HS
OF NICK McCLAIN 5-10, 175 TUSTIN, CA. - BECKMAN HS Mid round pick pick but removed himself from the draft. UCLA bound.
OF MALAKHI KNIGHT 6-3, 190 MARYSVILLE, WA.-GETCHELL HS Shooting star that tailed off some from hoop injury and short season at Getchell. Projects 3rd round and reportedly has a big asking price.

You are half correct. Serra is a Catholic high school in San Mateo but your assertion is incorrect. There is also a J.Serra Catholic HS located in San Clemente, near the county lines dividing Orange and San Diego counties. That J.Serra Catholic is the baseball power UCLA tapped into. They are members of the Trinity League with Don Bosco, Mater Dei, Rancho Santa Margarita Catholic, and Anaheim Servite.
Here is how you can prove yourself wrong - Google it.
Take note: Serra appears in two locations, San Clemente and neighboring San Juan Capistrano. Both are roughly 475 miles south of San Mateo.

There should be no confusion for you since I never referenced Serra HS in San Mateo in my original post,a school I am familier with BTW - Lynn Swann, Tom Brady, Greg Jefferies, etc. And who has determined it is more well known? not in southern California. If you mention JSerra in SoCal, people don't immediately think of San Mateo.
You can never assume there is only one high school in any state with a given name. Our Victor Quinn played baseball at Wentzville, Mo. - Liberty HS. When I saw that Liberty HS wion the Missouri state baseball championship, I was pleased for Victor. Actually the state champion was Liberty HS in Kansas City, Mo.

Father Junipero Serra is a central, if not THE central figure in Spanish-Californian History. Many schools in California, public and private, bear his name. In fact, he is so famous in California history that public schools that bear his name have started to change that name to something else.

Back on the original topic which seems sometimes impossible on this board. Hurd announced this morning via Twitter that he will be attending UCLA so must not have gotten what he was asking for as far as bonus and has to be a huge sigh of relief for the Bruins and their fans

Well, there's one, Eric Silva to the Giants in the 4th round.
And the Giants have saved money on below slot guys so far, so he should sign.
USC, Cal, ASU and Arizona have also lost guys.

I imagine that is why several guys slid well down the draft boards last night, and others shot up.

Allow me a final word on the great “is there more than one Serra HS in California” debate.
If you read the post carefully, you saw San Clemente prefacing the Junipero Serra HS references. Not San Mateo, San Clemente ! (where many Serra students reside). A poster was obviously unaware that that Serra- HS in San Mateo was not the only Serra HS in California. Often erroneous assumptions lead to mistakes, a fact that should not be lost on the poster. I would suggest doing a little research before jumping to false conclusions.
If you read the post, you saw Serra HS prefaced with San Clemente (Orange County), not San Mateo. I fail to understand how somebody would confuse that with San Mateo or make the false assumption that San Mateo-Serra was the ONLY Serra HS in the state.
I would offer this from Wiki and move on:

Or you could just admit that you've mislabeled the name of the high school those kids attend, which is what led to the initial confusion. But by all means call me "wrong". Naturally, jwRONG2u
