Manny doesn't hold back on his position about player enrichment.

From a 247 sports article, Miami stars D Eriq King, Bubba Bolden land first reported big money NIL deals. In the article Manny says how much this will help in recruiting, because of the opportunities a large metropolitan area will provide for his players. One of his reasons was that Major League teams are never located in small markets.

there's a lot of truth to what he says, but it has some benefits. For instance, for the guy with the car dealership that was greasing the palms of recruits anyway, now they will want an open benefit of the player's endorsement of their business. When such a player then makes the police beat, it reflects badly on the endorsed business as well (should the owner/customers even care).
I also like the idea that players like Pivec/Wiese/Gulich can cash in on their local popularity. They likely had more endorsement value in Corvallis than anytime in their NBA careers, although I really have no idea - it's really hard to find WNBA endorsement deal info, as most of the are 'not disclosed', which I assume means the numbers are not impressive... but maybe they are.

I'm afraid this new deal is going to usher in a new era of "the rich get richer while the poor have kids"! Unless limits (yeah right) are in place, Rode'o Drive will out bid Monroe Ave. every time.
Go Beavs!!

Go Beavs!! Yup. I just can't see OSU offering the same exposure to bigger schools in bigger markets for kids that really think they can build up a brand. Honestly, I think the whole of the Pac-12 is going to suffer compared to the east coast...

Stanford, Cal and the Arizona schools might be able to dig up some cash. USC, UCLA, UW have a good chance of some wealthy alumni stepping forward. uo…egad, what Nike can do for them...It's not hard to imagine a day, sooner rather than later, when the big schools leave to join a power/money conference and the smaller schools court the Mountain West. The economic war hasn't even started yet.

The economic war hasn't even started yet. As much as we have come to appreciate parity, in the end it's more difficult to attract an audience with so many options for fandom. The NCAA sees Alabama, USC, Penn State, Texas, etc. as the New York Yankees. They will return to being the headliners of college football, with traditional powers dominating the sport the way that they did when they could simply stockpile players before the 85 scholarship rule. It's still college football so there will be upsets but this will create a lack of parity for sure.

One MADDENING thing to me is; OSU does have a fairly large number of wealthy alumni. MANY, if not MOST have decided their donations are more important elsewhere.

Go Beavs!! It will drive athletics off the university campuses. Intercollegiate athletics are on life support and the family has ordered the machine to be disconnected. With athlete enrichment legislatures will be pushed to sell sports facilities and/or close college athletic programs. It shouldn't be a surprise. O'Bannon was the canary.

Regardless of how good you are, at least the schollie was a great equalizer. Any bonuses had to be handled by bag men and though the player probably knew who was getting the extra ganache, at least it had to be kept quiet. Now the athletes getting bucks will be able to flaunt it and I can't see that as being a positive for team dynamics. Of course in a few years it will all be the new normal and we may be able to be back just discussing needing to fire the coach again, but at the moment it feels really shaky.

From the time this came up as a possibility I felt it was very bad news for OSU. I didn't see how we could compete with the endorsement deals that others could offer (e.g. Nike U). I tried to come up with a way that it could be an advantage to us somehow, but have failed. I haven't read the details of the changes to know if/how it may be limited or equalized, but when I let my pessimistic side take over I feel like this is the beginning of the end for parity, OSU being competitive, and even college athletics in general.
