Canham's recruiting class of 2021 is very solid and nationally ranked in spite of losing two highly touted recruits and a promising prep pitcher in the draft. It's a deep class and I think we can reasonably expect to see at lest 6 freshman contribute some form of help immediately.
Oregon State's recruiting classes of 2022 (14 commits), 2023 (13 commits), 2024 (7 commits), and 2025 (3 commits) might be described by famous New Orleans Chef, Emeril Lagasse as "kicking it up a notch". These four classes are brimming with star power - Six out of the 7 commits in the 2024 class are nationally ranked and the 7th (Zach Swanson) will be once he catches the bus out of Toutle Lake and flashes his 90 mph heater in a well attended tournament.
My point? Expect OSU freshman to actively contribute in the future. They are that good.
Kids today are playing travel ball in the 6th grade. They play on elite teams, receive excellent coaching, go to camps, play 40 games in the summer against top competition, have personal trainers, associate and train with baseball academies (like Gunderson Baseball), and are highly developed players by the time they hit the field at Goss Stadium.
By the time they are high school Seniors, they have experienced it all. Our two incoming catchers, Tanner Smith and Wilson Weber are primary examples. Both have played about 70 games in high school (even with 2020-covid), probably close to 200 games of travel ball against the best in the country, Perfect Game MLK series, WWBC tournament series, Area Code Games, National Showcase events, ad infinitum.
Tanner Smith has been a baseball animal - He has played on numerous Elite Tournament teams all over the land - Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia and others. Every Super team wants Tanner to catch for them and he obliges. The PAC-12 won't be his first big Rodeo.
Good times ahead, boys!
