Yep, figure late season, but a lot of teams would give their left cojone to have him as their backstop.

The article pretty much says they are not bringing him up this year because they’ve essentially written this year off and they don’t want his arbitration clock to start until next season. No matter how incredible his season ends up being this year in the minors. They can still bring him up in August and not affect the arbitration. We shall see. Sure. But he should be there now.

Mildly interesting tidbit: I noticed a while back that Andrew Vaughn, the former Cal player and #3 pick in the same draft as Adley, has been on the White Sox roster all season. Haven't done the research to see if any other 2019 draftees have been called up to the bigs yet. The White Sox want to win. Keep Vaughn happy now, and six years down the road - when they might not even want to re-sign him - takes care of itself.

Have to be careful - the Mariners were keeping Kelenic down for arbitration reasons too - then finally did bring him up and an 0-39 AB streak promptly has him right back in Tacoma.

Alek Manoah (West Virginia '19) is in the Jays' starting rotation, but the Jays are only three games back of the Astros for fifth. The Orioles are 11.5 games back of the Jays, 14.5 games behind the Astros.

Grenier's AA season unfortunately ended today (9/19/2021) with a whimper at the plate. He's one of my all time favorite Beavs, but except for a spell a couple months ago when he got 'hot', his performance at bat does not bode well.
His season BA (.226), driven downward by a 6 for 48 September (.125), is pretty bleak for a 24-year old minor leaguer. If he wasn't a 1st round draft pick, who could field like a demon, he'd likely be done. He may be done, anyhow.

Odds aren't even good for first round draft picks to even get a sniff of big leagues. He probably will still get a chance next year. Great glove but that won't get a player there. You have to be able to do it all on a consistent basis.

Caydn is everything the Orioles want defensively in a shortstop but their hitting instructors haven't been able to develop his hit tool beyond a career BA of low .230's. His OBP is relatively better at .335.
His saving grace is that the great majority of shortstops in the Baltimore organization all struggle at the plate. Richie Martin and George Mateo with the big club, languish in the .230's range. Both are 26 years old. At AAA Richmond, 26 year old Mason McCoy has hit in the .230's all year.
Jordan Westburg was a first round supplemental pick out of MSU but the Orioles have moved him to 3B at High-A Aberdeen. They like 20 year old Gunnar Henderson, a shortstop drafted in the 2nd round out of HS - he is also at High-A Aberdeen. Darrel Hernaiz is at Low-A Delmarva but not a touted prospect. The Jewell of the shortstops in the Baltimore farm system is Maikol Hernandez, an 18 year old they signed for big bucks, outbidding Pittsburgh and St. Louis out of Venezuela. He's currently playing in the Dominican Winter League.
I think Caydn gets another year but sometimes a change of scenery and fresh approach with new hitting instructors can do wonders for a player.

It was always his bat that was gonna keep him from going further. I hope he can improve, because obviously he's an incredible defensive talent.

Really hoping he can turn it around next season, but he's striking out over 30% of his plate appearances and will be 25 next month. If he can manage something to the extent of.225/.325/.375 next year in AAA he'll get a shot at the majors just based on how good his glove is.

Akron and Bowie play a best-of-five series starting tomorrow in Bowie for the Southwest Division Championship. Cadyn Grenier still has at least three more games to impress.

For those following along, Akron beat Bowie 5-1 in Game 1. Jordan Westburg (Mississippi State '20) homered on the fifth pitch of the game. Peyton Battenfield (Oklahoma State '19) followed that up by pitching seven perfect innings. (Battenfield was Oklahoma State's closer and closed out games 1 and 2 against Oregon State in 2019.) Nick Mikolajchak pitched two no-hit innings. Akron only allowed three runners after Westburg's leadoff home run, two on error. Cadyn Grenier drew the sole walk that Akron allowed but was stranded in the eighth. Otherwise, Grenier was 0/2 with a three-pitch strikeout and a groundout to short. The first pitch of Game 2 is set to start at 3:35 p.m. PT.

Game 2 of series was Wed. Night. Bowie lost 8-5. Bowie started 20 year old Gunnar Henderson at SS. He was called up to AA a week ago. He had a HR and a BB in 4 plate appearances.
