There’s a reason Nate didn’t get the job. 2019 Pac-12: Oregon State 3.02 ERA Arizona 6.23 ERA
2021 Pac-12:
Oregon State 3.22 ERA Arizona 4.57 ERA
I am curious as to how the Arizona-Oregon State series is going to play out, because I get the feeling that Nate is going to get those Wildcat pitchers jacked up to play at Goss.
From what I have seen from Mitchy Slick, so far, he appears to be the worst of the three choices. I am hoping that he makes me eat crow next weekend. The dude’s name isn’t even Christopher Columbus Mitchy Slick.

If the real choices were Yeskie, Bailey, Mitch the choice is Mitch. Now for real concern is the lack of progression of the Pitching Staff. Are we better today than before the start of the season? Who is calling the pitches? Who is feeding the middle of the Arizona lineup Fastballs? The same may be said about the Hitting. Are we better at the Plate? Why all the K's? Some of our guys are damn near auto outs. We are a decent defensive team, mediocre Hitting and Pitching. I hope I am wrong and we catch fire and make it to Omaha.

How much longer are certain texters here going to continue to 'whistle past the graveyard'? Yeskie or not, the Canham hire was a significant error. MC was/is obviously just not ready or qualified to manage a high-profile collegiate baseball program. What's to do about it now? Probably not much. We're likely stuck with Mitch and his ineffective, inconsistent management style for at least a few more seasons. Maybe he'll learn on the fly, maybe not. So let's hope he does sharpen up, otherwise we're in for a long slide downhill. Grackle, I take it you mean me on that list. Whatever. Is Mitch the guy? We will see.

Grackle - we know you don't like Canham. But I think Pat Casey said he was retired. This is Canham's first full year coaching at OSU. He's smart and motivated. OSU is at worst, decent. I believe the recruiting classes look good. If you use the 2017 and 2018 seasons as your baseline of success, Casey Stengal with a young Mickey Mantle would have trouble meeting your expections.

Are we better at the plate? I'd say yes. Melton, Armstrong, Claunch, Meckler, Ober and Casey are hitting well above their pre-2021 norms.
There are one, maybe two projectable triple-A or possibly MLB players on this roster. Losing Susac to Arizona hurt obviously but our 2018 and 2019 recruiting classes, which should be providing the third- and fourth-year top talent, were not good. That is not on Canham, but he's paying the price. I'm amazed we've won as many games as we have.
I'll just have to disagree with Grackle. No surprise there, I generally do.

Given our track record so far this season against ranked teams, I don’t see the Beavs winning that series. I think we have somewhat better pitching but Arizona has been better at the plate. Our late game pitching and game calling by MC has been mediocre at best.

We've been in position win the series at UCLA and at ASU. That's what managers do, put their teams in position to win. At that point, players have to make plays. At some point, they are accountable.

Replace Canham with Yeskie? No, that’s silly and unrealistic of course. I just hope that Pat Casey is working behind the scenes with Mitch to teach him to be a better manager/coach.

Pains me to say this , however, the bright shiny object boy's ( down South ),, seem to be 'gelling', with their new staff ! Differences I see ( limited exposure ) 1) far more consistent pitching 2) confidence at the plate Why ( Communication at all stress points, and, mutual respect )
I would hire Kevin Gunderson as pitching coach !

Pretty sure on Friday night Yeskie's staff gave up 16 runs to UW - on Friday night! Oregon State allowed 4 runs in their 3-game series with UW.

There’s a reason Nate didn’t get the job. And what is the reason? He didn’t have Casey’s blessing. Plus, Yeskie is a grade A a-hole IMO. But, they didn’t ask me.

Kevin is doing great, where he is at. Moving Kevin from where he is at would destroy recruiting.

Yes we are 32-17, 14-10, 19 rpi and a solid #2 seed with a chance to become a #1 regional seed w 7 games left. By all means fire our new coach in his first full season.

Make Nate an offer to do what? Our pitching staff isn't bad,but Abel after Tommy John isn't the same guy. We have barely had one season under Mitch. Too early to panic, but I think we are a work in progress. How do we know Nate would do better?
