Ever since that massive injury, Kevin able hasn’t been able to return to World Series form at all. And yesterday’s game proves it. I hate to say, but Kevin is done. That massive injury ruined his career for good.
What’s y’all’s thoughts on him?

For what my opinion is worth KA has lost velo and control of his FB and breaking ball. Before his injury when his FB and breaking stuff was down he was damn near un-hittable. His change is still a killer. It also appears to me when he get 2 Balls on hitter he kind of loses it. Is it a rehab problem? Coaching problem? He has a couple of weeks to get it together or our road to Omaha is going through Sucksville.

I think that he is still working his way back into the elite form thathe displayed prior to his injury. He was reall, really strong over the last few innings he pitched yesterday ! He will get back , but maybe not until this season is over ! I have a friend that is a scout , and he says the fastball will come back and that, even now, his breaking balls are exceptional ! He has seen a lot of arm surgeries and , at various stages of their return, and he continues to tout Abel's arm as actually being ahead of where most others would be !

I do think Kevin will eventually get "it" back, unfortunately not in a Beaver uniform.

I like him.....needs more time to recover from the surgery but at times he is the old Abel we expect.....I’m hoping that he gets his overall game by the time the regional play starts.....probably needs more time than that but a fella can always hope

Needs an inning or two to ramp up. Has to "find it" every time out.
Velo was up to 92 at ASU Friday nite. Mid - hi 80's at UCLA
Curve and Change are filthy - curve can be inconsistent.
Primary issue for KA is command. Getting the pitch to do what it was intended to do and in the location it was intended to hit.
Walks and hit batsmen have been his bugaboo.
It's all there - how and when does he get it all together?
That is the question the MLB scouts are asking.

There was one curve that so fooled the hitter and umpire that it was humorous. Righty batter ducks at a high inside pitch. Umpire flinched away. The ball just about whacked the hitter in the head, but the head and the ball were over the plate, and I think the pitch was a strike. Just filthy.

Until the Regionals and World Series, Abel was incredibly inconsistent in 2018. In his last RS start v Stanford, he threw 107 pitches in 4+ innings and walked six guys. That has not changed; he still cannot consistently repeat pitches.
That does not mean he can't be a decent pro. Mark McLemore had the same problem, fixed it in the minors and was doing well with the Astros until he blew his elbow out.
Christian Chamberlain would have been our best pitcher last year, even if Abel had been healthy.

Abel is learning on the job. Worse, he has to unlearn things and habits he had prior to the injury and learn what his body is capable of now. And Abel is fiercely competitive, so he has to overcome some of his own thinking.
Injuries are tough to deal with, physically and mentally. You used to be able to do X but now your body doesn’t have the same springiness or flexibility or whatever. Half the time, you’re trying to beat yourself.
Abel has wicked pitches. He fared well last night, even if not up to our expectations. I’ve noticed he isn’t striking out as many, so perhaps he is making adjustments in his approach. Less of the “I’ve got to strike this guy out” mentality and more of a “let me just keep him on his heels so that he can’t tag one” mentality.
I have no special insight, so I could be wrong.

John Smoltz, Jacob Degrom, Lance McCullers, Shohei Ohtani, Walker Buehler, Chris Sale, Noah Syndergaard, Yu Darvish, Adam Wainright, Steven Strasberg and a few others actually think you can indeed come back from this massive, massive injury.
I do hear that sometimes it does take a while to throw the ball like you used to with the reconstructed ligaments in your elbow.
