Opportunity ? We have an opportunity on consecutive weekends to take down the #8 Regional seed, Arizona and the #9 Regional seed, Stanford. As it now sits, Arizona is line to host a Regional and Super Regional, but if they were swept in Corvallis . . . probably not. Losing 2 of 3 at Stanford and being swept at OSU would burst their bubble to host a "Super".
Stanford is on the bubble at number 9. They will host a Regional but need to move up a peg to host a "Super". An OSU sweep of Arizona might settle that for them. On the other hand, an OSU sweep of Stanford would move the Beavers into the picture of hosting a Regional. Winning 9 or 10 of our final 10 games might lock that up. I think 40-16 with our RPI is worthy of hostng a Regional.
The real question becomes - is that possible from this 2021 team? This Beaver team is capable, but at times it has been inconsistent when their effort has been timid and defensive. The baseball writers acknowledged before the season, Oregon State was talented with a deep pitching staff and solid defense. Offense was the question mark but we have shown flashes of some scoring punch late in the season. The writers also acknowledged "we were a team built for close games". Sweeping the Wildcats and Cardinal - difficult yes, but not out the question.
A recap:
SECURE TEAMS: The eight national seeds (Arkansas, Vanderbilt, Texas, Mississippi State, TCU, Tennessee, Notre Dame, Arizona.
OUTSIDE LOOKING IN: Stanford, Texas Tech, Oregon, Florida, East Carolina
ON THE BUBBLE TO HOST (IN): Louisiana Tech, Pittsburgh, Florida State
ON THE BUBBLE TO HOST (OUT): Louisville, Charlotte, Gonzaga, UCLA, Southern Miss, Georgia Tech, UC Irvine, South Carolina, OREGON STATE.
On Friday, the Division I Baseball Committee will name a pool of 20 potential sites for the 16 regionals, which will be narrowed to the final 16 on Memorial Day weekend. We will need to be included in that pool of 20.

And while they’re at it, put on their hitting shoes.

OSU, with perhaps 5 wins in their next 6 games, could position themselves for a top 16 seed. We are not that far out if we can win. A series win at ASU would be big, a sweep would be huge. I like to think huge.

Just my opinion but if Kevin A doesn't become KA of CWS you can kiss our A____ goodbye. Of course it is still possible someone might step up and become the real stopper. Don't think we can hit our way to Omaha. Go Beav's !!!

I like to think huge. But if we are not included in the 20 sites, which we won't be, it doesn't really matter that much, right? But on the other hand, there is a lot of baseball to play still so what if things don't play out by how the sites are chosen? I guess that's what the 20 sites for 16 is sposed to prepare for........ I hope it's all blown up when the series don't go as planned and we are right in the middle of that.

The Beavs haven’t overcome inconsistencies in their play yet to be able to foresee with much accuracy. We’ve seen a Beaver team that is both capable of winning any game while also capable of losing very “easy” games. Which team will be on the field when it matters most? Hard to say.
I am sure that we will win more than we lose. And we may even sweep a series or two. We need to get these boys some experience in the regionals so that they have that taste in their mouth for next year.

It would help immensely if the coaching staff, as well as the players, became more consistent.
MC's steep learning curve is not going to be helpful during this stretch run. Not good.

The Beavs have yet to win a series against a ranked team so expecting them to win all three remaining series against ranked teams .....I just don’t see it happening. We’ve been too inconsistent all year. I’m hoping I’m wrong but we will likely be on the road somewhere in regionals.

I see next to zero chance the two schools from Oregon host. Except the new County metric in Oregon is % vaccinated - not #'s of cases. ...and Benton County is in 1st place in Oregon per the %vacc. metric (though the Beavs baseball performance is just under the level needed to be among the "20" potential host sites). Lane County though, at 6th most vaccinated county in Oregon, is in excellent position to be classified as 'low risk' (or better) by 5/21, and since Eugene 'made' the "20", I'm pretty certain there will be Regional NCAA D-1 hosting in Spewgene OREGON. Let's just hope they get a very strong #2 assigned to their city.

I know I really have no right to bitch being just a Fan but damn this teams seems to operate on a per-determined loss plan. Metrics? What happened to learning games and must win games. What happened to pulling Pitchers who can't throw strikes? What about pulling a pitcher who you can see is getting hit? So the Pad says Starters throws for 6 inning, ck. Next....... throws for 22.5 Pitches. Next ..... throws for 1 out. Closer........ finishes the game no matter what. Chance of winning 19.07343% with wind blowing 3 Mph or less or not.

Very frustrating. Abel had a few good innings. Frisch walks people. We cannot count on our pitchers. 2 times we should have scored. On passed ball and on the double. Not aggressive and not finishing games. We have two chances to get 2 wins. ASU deserved to win. They hit when they had to and did not pack it in. Almost to the point where I won’t keep watching. Not entertaining just disappointing.
