My guess is with the illness, missing a season, the weight gain, the emergence of Bennett and maybe others, and the eligibility clock running short, the handwriting may be on the wall that he may not get the playing time here he would like. He seems to be a good kid that has been through a lot, he's graduated and apparently on the road to health, he may be able to come out of this with most or all of a master's AND playing time if he drops a level. I hope he finds a spot and does very well.

It's too bad he doesn't stick it out and try to contribute. We could use the depth on the DL, just like every year.

Where did the 7 years come from in Daschel's article? By my quick search, he was at what I assume is a JC (Laney College) in 2017 and '18, then at OSU for 2019 and '20. This season (2021) will be year 5. What am I missing? He graduated from high school in 2014, signed with SJSU school that year but didn't make it to campus. He joined or at least signed with Laney in 2015 and I guess there must be a question of when his timeline began. Then came to OSU and played in 19/20 and sat out last year.

He subsequently had some legal issues that he had to resolve before he could attend college. He signed up at Laney College in 2015 but tore his ACL in the opener and missed all of the 2015 and 2016 seasons. By that time, he was too big to play running back, so he transitioned to defensive tackle. He played in 2017 and 2018, graduating to play for Oregon State in 2019 and 2020. He was supposed to only have one year to play one but received a medical redshirt, which allowed him to play as a junior in 2019. Because of COVID-19, he was able to play in 2020 and still retain his senior status.

He's got an offer from Harballs: Either that shoots the "he won't get any playing time here" theory, or Michigan really sucks!

He's got an offer from Harballs: Either that shoots the "he won't get any playing time here" theory, or Michigan really sucks! Obviously it is depth chart related that he's leaving. It is possible that Michigan sees the film and potential, and needs depth and is just taking a flyer on a 1 and done. Reading between the lines, his comments about scars make it seem to me that he feels he isn't going to get the same look as he will with fresh eyes.

Reading between the lines, his comments about scars make it seem to me that he feels he isn't going to get the same look as he will with fresh eyes. Conclusion: Michigan sucks. They're moving to a 3-4 this year and have 14 players competing for those 3 spots. It would kind of be a head-scratcher if he were to accept a schollie from Michigan for a one and done. One has to expect that he's looking for playing time. Although they are looking for an Elephant End who can line as an inside or outside pass rusher and that does kind of fit Whittley's size and skillset.

Just maybe he wasn't cleared to play at osu . I didn't see him contributing at osu this year. He isn't the 360 pound weight that he is listed on the roster...
