I wonder if the AD didn't say to Rueck "if you don't need assistant's right away there's this hole on the budget that could get smaller if you waited a while".

I have a question for those who may have a better memory than me. I'm posting it in this thread only because we are talking about coaches here. I'm not asking because of the current Oregon State assistant search, but only because I am curiours. Does anyone remember Marie Gulich ever talking about the possibilty of coaching in her future? I can't. I was just curious because I think she has the personality to be a good one.
2nd question, when Ellie Mack was in the transfer portal last year, I remember SR talking about speaking with someone to gain more information about her. I can't remember if it was someone who was familair with the Patriot league, or someone who had coached Ellie. I tried finding this is print, but I think it may have been radio interviews where I picked it up. Does anyone remember that interview, and was it someone who had actually coached Ellie, or were they just familiar with her and/or the Patriot league?

Ok Rmancarl, after searching John Canzano's Bald-Faced-Truth podcasts, and "The Joe Beaver Show", I found the Ellie Mack info. Go to the link below and search for "Rueck", and look for the one labeled "Scott Rueck looks ahead to next season" , 5/6/20 (I can't see a way to give a direct link to this interview) tunein.com/radio/The-Joe-Beaver-Show-p136241/SR knew her former coach (Aaron Russell) who left Bucknell after the 2018-19 season. I hope that helps, and for folks that want to listen to SR interviews with John Canzano, same deal, search for "Rueck" at the link below, lots of past interviews: soundcloud.com/kxtg-the-bald-faced-truth

To go along with the idea of holding off hiring assistant coaches, Rueck could hire Aleah and Mik as grad assistants. OSU would save money and Aleah and Mik would get coaching experience. Do grad assistants get paid anything ? It's a win win situation.

The position announcement is here jobs.oregonstate.edu/postings/100989 and the position closes on 5/18/21. So my guess is we will know something by the following Monday unless a surprise applicant that is highly qualified comes in at the last minute.

Help me out here, but isn't the university obligated to publicly advertise a coach opening for X amount of days before a hire can be made? Maybe someone knows the exact rule - but perhaps this is part of the delay in making a hire. It will be interesting to me how quickly after May 18th a hire is made..... In other words, the decision has been made, but protocol must be followed before it can be officially transacted. Repeat: I'm not sure about this....several out there can probably provide insight on this..... GO BEAVS!!

I thought Mik was going med school or has she changed her mind and now wants to coach basketball?

I wouldn't bet against Aleah, she has been proving people wrong her whole career. I admit the odds are against her sticking in the wnba are pretty low but if she wants to I bet she can find places to play on other countries.

Seems really unlikely that Barnes actually followed that policy in order to post, interview and hire two assistants in what looks like a 7 day span from what I gather.
