Wow. There's a lot to unpack here, but I'll start with what the hell is "perspicacious?" I had to Google that one as well: "having a ready insight into and understanding of things" Where the hell is Rory at, that bastard? I HAVE BEEN OUT-VAINGLORIOUSED

What? I think they disagree wholeheartedly that Excess Death isn't the best metric. They use Excess Death as the basis of their approach, they are just careful to point out that excess death does not equal the Covid death rate: If it wasn't clear what I was saying, it's just the easiest way to explain to someone who has spent enough time in the echo chamber that there is no possible way that the overwhelming majority of deaths reported definitely were COVID-19, and that you can't argue numbers of those magnitude away by arguing the margins.

"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." -Benjamin Franklin
Amen to that brotha.
Outside this board, most are much more worried about our corporate owned state government taking control of unprecedented power in the name of covid than they are of getting covid. Especially outdoors at a baseball game sitting miles apart. F'ng retarded anyone would go along with such b.s.. not based in any science, logic, or intelligence whatsoever. Risks are everywhere folks. Sitting outside at a sporting event isn't on the higher end of them. Grow up.
Stay home if you're that terrified of covid, it's become a great excuse for that.

Huh. I logged on to the football board to read about Beaver Football and a COVID political name-calling argument broke out. Guess that's par for the course around here.

Just to add to the politics and follow the science bit, that conservative rag, The New York Times, called the CDC data on the outdoor spread of covid as being total bulls%#t. The Times data says 1% or less compared to the CDC's 10%. We will see how the CDC backs up their science.
Very interesting article that I can't link for some reason.

Along with several phrases that were not as kind as the "misleading" header.

Bottom line: you want stuff open get yer shot. While I haven't been on board with some of Browns calls, I am on this one. First, it is actually a somewhat science backed one is that 70% mark is right about where most experts say herd immunity is a factor. Second, it is a necessary carrot as our vaccination rates are starting to lag, and it is a concern. I know people are hesitant, and i am pretty sure I have said this before, maybe even in this thread, but Moderna and Pfizer have both been more thoroughly tested than probably any drug that has ever received any level of FDA approval. I mean that in terms of number of people they tested it on. I am not exaggerating when I say both companies tested their shots on 10x the number of people any other drug ever gets tested on prior to FDA approval. I know people are concerned about long term side effects, and this might not help, but no drug is ever approved for use with long term effects studied or known. not ever. The thing about long term, as the name implies, is it is long term. But sometimes you just gotta have faith. If you have faith humans can build a metal tube that launches you across the country 35,000 ft in the air at 500 mph and you get in that tube, you should trust the scientist making these vaccines. if you trust doctors to stop your heart, cut you open, cut open your heart, bore out some 50 years worth of cheeseburger goo that has accumulated there, re-route some of your pipes, sew you all back up, give your heart a "Fonz on the juke-box" style whack and get you up again... you need to trust the doctors making these shots. please y'all, turn off facebook and stop listening to your conspiracy theory uncle that flunked 9th grade science and get that shot so we can all watch some football in person next year.

Bottom line: you want stuff open get yer shot. FL schools were open last August, high school and college sports took place. Teachers from Oregon who refused to go back to the classroom vacationed in Orlando having a blast at Disneyworld. FL's entire economy has been open and I'm jealous. Their kids will have a huge advantage developmentally over those form states like OR who were shutout of their schools and activities. The bottom line is actually this: Florida faired no worse than states with extreme curfews and lockdowns like MI or CA with similar population centers. In fact given FL's age demographics, they did better while being entirely wide open. They will also suffer far fewer long term consequence with mental health, alcohol and drug addiction, and financial ruin and depression. That's the ture bottom line.

So Florida had a 10% infection rate vs about 4.2% for Oregon, and 36000 people have died in Florida (.16% of population) vs 2600 in Oregon (.06%). In nice simple rounded numbers, 2.5 times more Floridians got sick, and 2.67 times more people died per capita than in Oregon. I'm jealous.
