Or religious. Interesting. Very interesting. Hard to think of any successful religious people with or without a degree. LOL Just kidding. I’m not sure I understand your point. I certainly am not privy to the religious preferences of most people, nor do I care. “And when you pray, go into your inner room, shut the door, and pray to your Father who is unseen.” Matthew 6:6. Your religion isn’t my business.

Michael Dell dropped out of college as a freshman. Steve Jobs dropped out of college as a freshman. Julian Assange dropped out of college as a freshman. Bill Gates dropped out of college as a sophomore. Evan Williams (one of Twitter's co-founders) dropped out of college as a sophomore. Jack "Rasputin" Dorsey (another Twitter co-founder) dropped out of college. Mark Zuckerberg dropped out of college as a sophomore. Larry Ellison (Oracle) dropped out of college as a sophomore. Travis Kalanick (Uber) dropped out of college months before graduating. John Mackey (Whole Foods) dropped out of college before graduating. Idiots all. Everyone without an advanced degree is a complete idiot and cannot make up their own mind about anything. We all know that we require someone who has an advanced degree to tell us what to think and do. That's science! Funny stuff. These individuals are not the norm; they are the outliers. Go take a picture of your gas station attendant or maybe your supermarket manager or hairdresser. But don’t get me wrong. I rely upon some of these people to know their area of expertise and to perform their job well. Like the mechanic who fixes my car. I wouldn’t ask him to take a look at my sore tooth, for example. And though I am friends with my dentist, I wouldn’t trust his opinion on much outside of dentistry and baseball (especially the Asian leagues). These guys are all smart enough to surround themselves with the people who know how to make them successful. And they are smart enough to keep learning. As an aside, isn’t it fascinating that you can readily think of men who have dropped out of college and gone on to be successful, but it is much harder to think of women who have done the same? Or black people. Interesting. Very interesting. 13.4% of the population is African-American, so you would expect fewer. Plus, both African-Americans and women have a lower dropout rate than white males for whatever reason. That is a statistic that you never hear, which is interesting, very intersting. Ellen DeGeneres, Anna Wintour (Vogue), Rachel Ray, Kim Kardashian, Mary Kay Ash (Mary Kay), Addison Rae Easterling (ITEM Beauty), Maayan Gordon, Lucy Guo (Snapchat and Quora), Randalyn Hill (Cre8tives.com), Johanna Knapic, Kristen Leanne, etc. Jay Z, P Diddy, Magic Johnson, Beyonce Knowles, Tyler Perry, Berry Gordy (Motown Records), Russell Simmons (Def Jam and Phat Fashions), Ladi Delano (Solid XS) and Donahue Peebles (real estate).

Wow. There's a lot to unpack here, but I'll start with what the hell is "perspicacious?" I had to Google that one as well: "having a ready insight into and understanding of things"

pulling out the onesie-twosies examples of errors or mistakes does not make a case or set a trend. Arguing the margins is what losers and liars do. Congrats, you found one example in tens of thousands of a miscoded death, have a gold star! It is the end of the discussion for any reasonable person that understand how the system works. Anybody can always find nits to pick in anything. I seem to get labeled as stupid and/or undereducated many times on this board. Fortunately for me and my family, I’m neither! Many people like me feel that when a poster says that it’s the end of discussion, or that’s it, period, that it’s those folks are the ones who need to open their ears and at least consider what others are saying, especially when facts are presented. I also find it disappointing that you tell poster Bennyskid that because of his post he seems to be someone that never went to college. Wow. Lots of very smart and successful people never went to college, I’m sure you knew that, yet you slighted all of them in one sentence! JR Simplot spoke at our HS graduation. He dropped out of school in 8th grade, but seems to have done ok! I’m disappointed in you as an educated poster to stoop to the level you did. You should know better. Being an educated person and all. I never called anyone who didn't go to college stupid. Never. And, spud, I never called you stupid. I was snarky with you, so I apologize as you didn't deserve that. my point, ultimately, was that finding examples of exceptions to the rule doesn't undermine the rule. The reason for saying "end of discussion" was, very bluntly, as you took exception too, cutting off all this little whattabouts. because we can sit here ALL day and whattabout this, and whattabout that. and you can add up every single last one of those whattabouts with COVID deaths and still not amount to any significant number that would change deaths by more than a fraction of a percent. but that is besides the point, I understand and respect your protests that people should listen to what others have to say and be open to their input. I have no problem being challenged or being disagreed with or even talking about this stuff. With Bennyskid, I said my bit. I never called him stupid, but I did make it clear he sounded like a person jealous of the accolades those with titles and degrees get while the blue collared working man languishes in the shadows. It is a tenor that has existed in this country since we became a country. hell as long as we have been a human race. the working class has always been adversarial with anyone identified as "The Elite" The more recent shift, is scientists and doctors and I guess basically anybody with a college degree, now seem to be lumped in with "The Elite" these days, and face the distain previously just reserved for politicians and lawyers. I think, as Spud you are claiming, we'd all do well to try and actually understand each other. A good way to start is to not go around assuming scientists are all actually stupid and that is why there is confusion and misunderstanding around COVID. To be honest, that kid of attitude scares the bejesus outta me.

And how many of these could you readily name without searching for on the Internet? And let's say that you can name a few examples of each. Do they tend to be in fields dominated by folks with college degrees? We all know sports stars who didn't finish college or maybe never attended. Does that count? Should it? How about acting? Or music? I get it. First of all, we're looking for the outliers, which is of course going to be a very small number of people. Then among that very small number of people, we are looking for only Black or female success stories. The numbers are going to be small, of course.

To be honest, that kid of attitude scares the bejesus outta me. No problem. I don't mind snarky or other. And I mostly agree with your points. I think the biggest problem without a doubt in this whole mess was "The Elite" as you say, lying to the public about mask effectiveness. Whether it was for a good reason or not, it doesn't matter. It was stupid, and in my opinion is the root of most of the distrust. Seems like my grandpa was right- you should never lie. Once Dr. Fauci, the CDC, and the politicians had to reverse course, the trust was broken. Also the ever evolving theories on contact transfer, 6 ft, 25 ft, 3 ft, makes much of the general public skeptical that anybody really knows what's going on. Then you come to the cases this started on, although in the vast minority, people getting classified as a Covid death while dying with something else. I don't believe they were a significant number either, but I do think there were many cases like that, and really, all unnecessary, and further casting doubt on the situation. I don't believe scientists are stupid, and I doubt if Bennyskid does either. Some may be, not not the overwhelming majority. It was the lying.

Most high-level employees at Microsoft, Twitter et all are not high school dropouts. That’s what smart people do. They hire the best people. Whether they themselves went to college or not. They probably also have a better feel about hiring non-college grads than most as well. Besides, most highly driven, aggressive college drop outs aren’t interested in working for the man. They want to start their own thing.
