Bill and Melinda Gates have no prenup. With nearly $150 billion at stake, they will split their property according to a 'separation contract' they've agreed instead. Bill and Melinda Gates never signed a prenup, according to divorce filings first shared by TMZ. The couple announced their separation Monday. Well if it's on TMZ, it must be true! I find it very difficult to believe that the richest (or one of at the time) men in the world and the son of a lawyer, got married without a prenuptial agreement. WA is a community property state which, in layperson's terms means that everything earned after marriage begun, gets split 50/50, with or without a prenup.* *I'm not a divorce or family law attorney and did NOT stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. It wasn’t just on TMZ. Several publications said no prenup. When you have that much money, losing half is not a big deal. |

When did they get married? Was he rich then? Connected, but I give myself about a 50% chance I remember this correctly. But I think I remember him saying they were each allowed one weekend a year "outside the marriage." If true, as a guess, this leads to high rates of divorce.
